"My expectation last night was a stoppage in round 3 due to GnP or a submission of a beaten down Silva. That would also be my rematch prediction."

Right, because that brutal gnp and submission attempts were so succesful at the beginning of the fight when Weidmen was at his best.

I sure am. I don't think I will ever fully digest what happened last night. It was so bizarre it's beyond surreal

He did damage. It would have gotten worse.

Also, it probably would have taken until round 4, not 3, because Weidman was generally having to chase him around while Anderson retreated.

I don't understand how neutral observers don't see silva was on panic mode

The greatest fighter in UFC history sure has been panicking a lot lately, then.

I keep hearing about the strategy of baiting Weidman. It's not pure strategy unless you try to punch the other guy once he's standing with you. Weidman took the bait in the last couple minutes of first and the entire second round. Yet rather than try to capitalize on his successful baiting, Silva just kept getting goofier. If he was panicked as you say, as soon as Weidman looked to stand with him, he would have gone to work.

I saw an interview with Silva before the fight where the interviewer asked him how his perfect fight would end and he said, "Chris Weidman is the middleweight champion of the UFC!" Interviewer followed up, "So you could rematch him?"
Silva replied, "No hematch. I'm tired."

I'm not saying.....I'm just saying.

I forgot about the cut he opened up on Silvas forhead. And the broken nose. He really had his way with Anderson while he was in his guard. And the sub attempts really jacked up Silvas legas, he didnt ove around so easily after that. And then there was the time Anderson let him get some clean hits and that really rocked him. I forgot about all that damage he took.

The best post in this thread.

Completely rational and not trashing/hyping either fighter. Thank you.

silva said he isn't fighting anymore for the belt, and that he will keep fighting but retire for fighting the belt.

except he does... he doesn't credit weidman for the win, just attributes it to silva not doing his best

A lot of people on here are pretty bad off in their assessment. Silva taking a dive? Didn't try?

Wow. I expected more out of this board. Seriously.

I am going to chalk it up to people not liking or being able to handle being wrong and trying far fetched rationalization due to the insecurity that being wrong seems to make them feel.

Not a flame by the way. My honest assessment of all the weird far flung rationalizations about why Silva was beaten by a better fighter. I wonder what will happen if they rematch and Weidman beats him worse? Probably more of the same I would guess.

All serious silva talk is overrated.

In silva sonnen 2 once again sonnen was winning the fight until sonnen got sloppy like he tends todo and slipped with unncessary back fist.

He was beating a motivated anderson sane way he did first fight

If Silva is indeed done fighting for belts...how soon before Machida drops down to mw? I'm pretty sure that he doesn't cut at lhw.

Wow you are so hurt over this loss.

I was pointing out a serious silva doesn't drastically improve. Sonnen was winning both fights and got sloppy.2nd fight couldnt have been more focused.

A better version of sonnen who isn't sloppy didn't give silva a chance to exploit it. So athe seriois silva destroys him is ridiculous

Here's the thing.... Sonnen is sloppy. That's a fact. We've seen it time and time again especially when he's going against a black belt. If Anderson losses to Weidman again then it would confirm that he is better. This loss doesn't confirm to me that Weidman is better. Anderson's stupidity still leaves questions to be answered.

Why is it assumed that having questions about who the better fighter is after Saturday night = Weidman sucks?

Why is weidman not given credit by die hard silva fans for exploiting Anderson's stupidity? It's more of a silva lost than Weidman won. Hence everyone saying a focused silva destroys weidman. The lack of respect weidman gets for the victory is implying he sucks.

Although many people predicted weidman to win his fans in this thread have compared it to Serra beating gsp when its no where near that level.
Bonner/silva was a +800 -1000
Weidman/silva was a -215 +165

Gsp vs silva future line is

Anderson Silva -250 -225
Georges St-Pierre +190 +185

If they ever fight and gsp wins lets talk about the huge upset

Its the first time the guy has lost in almost a decade. Lets make sure it wasn't a fluke

No Weidman won. No bones about that. Anderson did showboat, and got nailed with a weird combo he wasn't expected. I'd like to see Weidman get asked if that was a planned attack that he caught him with. Anderson was using timing and that backfist before the KO got him decked.

I would pick Silva if they do a rematch, but it wouldn't surprise me at all if Weidman won again. He is talented and whether the die hard Silva fans want to admit it or not, he probably isn't as good as he was 4 or 5 years ago.

Anyone that says he sucks is a moron. Guys who suck don't get title shots these days in the UFC. Again though, Anderson has been champ for almost a decade. Lets let Weidman prove he is a champion before we start talking about him being so much better then Anderson.

No where close to the upset Serra was over GSP. Serra didn't really deserve the match in the first place, it was just a retread season of TUF that got him in the fight in the first place.

I don't think they will ever fight. Too much of a size difference. GSP himself has said that.
