Ron Dayne was the best RB to ever wear a Wisconsin uniform and Montee Ball has the most career TDs in NCAA history. Dayne was one of the most notable draft busts of all time and the jury is still out on Ball but it doesn't look good.
Quite possibly the dumbest reason for thinking a player isn't good on the next level
If you go back and Adrian Peterson plays for Wisconsin, you think you just becomes a bust because of that?

Yea, no he's not. Watching him play, he doesnt even look sub 4.5. If he's sub 4.5, then so is Jeremy Hill.
He's sub-4.5 easily

Agreed, but Gurley tearing it up elsewhere could be the final straw

The Jamal Anderson/Marshawn Lynch comparison just won't go away. It is so Atlanta to be in this spot again tho, if we get gurley he will flop and if we don't he will be a HOFer

If these are the choices I hope Gurley is a HOFer

I love Gurley but we have way bigger needs. I don't think seeing Gurley star behind a better OL put any extra pressure on TD

The Falcons definitely have bigger needs, but there are a lot of casual NFL fans who don't know or care about that.

No. Peterson would have been a stud no matter where he played. Wisconsin's scheme and OL has a way of making marginally talented RB prospects look like world beaters, though. I think Gordon is closer to this category than he is to being a legitimate star RB.

You're right. Hype for Gurley in Atlanta would be huge though. Would get a lot of interest from those UGA fans who have the Falcons as a distant second and only care when they're good.

Assuming Gurley's still on the board at 8, I'd really be thinking about trying to trade back a couple spots and draft him at 10-12 if I'm in charge of the Falcons. You could capture the PR boom and pick up another pick to help fill other football needs. You'd have to get the right price in return obviously.

I don't think you watched much Melvin Gordon over the last couple seasons. The OL, while good, was nowhere near what it was when players like John Clay and Montee Ball were running behind it.
Melvin Gordon is a completely different breed than any Wisconsin RB before him. It's that simple.
You want college production? Look no further than any Wisconsin RB.
You want college production + the necessary traits to be a star at the next level? Look at Melvin Gordon.
No Wisconsin RB has ever had the game breaking ability of a Gordon. His ability to score on runs of more than 40+ yards is completely unmatched over the last couple seasons in CFB. No Wisconsin RB has ever possessed the blend of size (6-foot-1 215 pounds), speed (4.5 40), and production of a Melvin Gordon. There are a couple runners (i.e. Montee Ball and Ron Dayne) who hold collegiate records, but never graded out as elite-level athletes at the RB position.
Montee Ball, himself, said in Varsity (a Wisconsin digital magazine) that Melvin Gordon possessed far more "talent" than he ever had. Bret Bielema referred to Gordon as the most talented RB he's ever recruited (not sure if that's changed since he left for Arkansas).
I'm not arguing that Gordon might be a better prospect than Todd Gurley, but not giving him a chance because of his predecessors is ignorant and really shows me there is little chance you spent a great deal of time over the past two seasons watching him. If you had, you would readily see the differences in running.
Sort of off-topic, but a big shame is the story of Vonte Jackson. He played at Wisconsin and played high school ball with Gordon. Many felt he was actually the better player of the two. Unfortunately, ACL injuries caught up with him. He suffered multiple tears. Feel bad for the kid. What could have been for him...

Mainly because it is incredibly wrong
Eta: and I'm aware that the falcons have plenty of needs, but I like gurley so fricking much that I just wanna take him. I will enjoy being a falcons fan more with gurley on the team than if we didn't have gurley and had a slightly better team

Add in the fact that people didn't respect Wisconsin's passing game at all last year. Gordon still killed it.

That's the same reason I don't want Gurley to end up with the Giants. I want to be able to root for him.
And I love Gurley, probably just as much as the rest of my fellow Dawg fans, and I think he has maybe the most talent in the draft, but I'm not sure I could spend a top 10 pick on a RB coming of an ACL tear. Just too risky for me.

I'm getting Gurley hype more I research today. Trade back to like 12-13 and pick up a second round pick. Trade that or a 3rd for Irvin. Get Gurley before SD/SF/MIA. Get Ray in the second if he's still there.

rams are talking to titans about #2 pick
I heard Rams are dangling Brockers out there for a top10 pick, possible package to move up to #2??.
Last rumor i heard was Brockers to Bears for #7

I don't know what you're laughing at.
If Collins isn't cleared, then many teams will take him off their boards completely. I've already heard several former-execs say today that he is completely undraftable at this point.
Cleared of what? He isn't even a suspect according to the police, you are crazy.

Damn. Would love to have Brockers in Nashville to go alongside Jurrell Casey. Package Brockers with another couple of picks and I'll take it.
