He does make a good point in the article...

"The head football coach has final say over everything that transpires on the practice field. Everything. That’s why Ohio State’s Jim Tressel moved the Buckeyes’ practice inside on Tuesday when wind gusts made conditions unsafe.

“I don’t know if we’ll be inside or out,” Tressel told Ohio reporters 24 hours before the Notre Dame tragedy. “It looks a little nasty. I worry about our cameramen, their well-being up there 50 feet in the air.”

Kelly should have said we're 4-4, we're playing freaking Tulsa, not USC or Michigan, what is the point of videoing practice,

Your in week 8, you should have enough practice video not to mention game tape on file of every player in that program

At what age do you officially quit being a kid. I'm pretty sure 20 is not considered a kid. If it is then the pussification of this country is complete.

Agreed. Unless the kid protested and was told that his gig as cameraman was on the line by the HC, then I think all the coach owes is a "Shocked and saddened at this tragedy, thoughts and prayers go out to the family" statement.

I just wish everyone would quit referring to the "young man" as a kid. He was 20 years old for christ's sake. I'm not saying anyone was or was not at fault, but the dude should have made the decision to protect his own damn life. Especially if he realized the danger, which he obviously did.

Coaches dont control those staff memebers. They have supervisors and are a part of the athletic department. Brian Kelly has no say in the filming of his pracitices.

Agreed. He's the HC, not the all-encompassing, all-knowing franchise manager that controls all aspects of the ND brand.

Whitlock has good viewpoints on some things, this is not one of them.

Do you not remember being that age? The head coach at ND is a lot more powerful and influential than he was. People do irrational things, especially younger people because they are still learning life. frick. Trying to blame the guy in the tower for this is unbelievable!

My only question here is why was he up there to begin with in those conditions?

I'm not blaming anyone. The problem with this country is there has got to be blame for everything. Somebody has to be at fault. Could it not just be a terrible accident?? I know when I was 20 I did some stupid things. Hell, I do some stupid things at 44, but if I was ever in a situation where I felt my life was on the line, I took control over my actions.

Coach Saban used to lose it and chew out LSU staff because the lightning monitor would go off and he would have to move practice inside. Coaches don't want to hear excuses, it was a little windy but that's not gonna stop salary driven win at all cost coaches

I was 21 when you were born. I guess we were just smarter at that age than ya'll are now. Of course we weren't raised in a nanny state like ya'll are.

The AD drives the "brand" of the school, but he's the CEO of the football end of things. That's what a head coach does.
