With Notre Dame's anemic schedule and a guarantee for a Playoff spot if ranked in the Top 12 , ND should've done more and accommodated USC - meet them halfway - if they really wanted this to continue.

USC has very little wiggle-room in the full Big10....Notre Dame didn't need to replace USC with another Coast Guard auxiliary squad.

Its on them, 100%. Its always about them and being outside the system. They fumbled the ball on purpose now that they don't need quality wins.

Didn’t Notre Dame replace USC with BYU? Comparable team.

I don’t see South Carolina running away from Clemson after playing a full SEC schedule. I don’t see Florida running away from FSU (who is typically pretty good and has won a recent championship) after playing a full SEC schedule. I don’t see Kentucky running away from Louisville (who is typically a decent - solid team) after playing a full SEC schedule.

USC is chicken shite. Their own former players/alums are calling Lincoln Riley and their female AD out. USC is trying to schedule their way into the Playoffs and they’re tied of losing to ND.

What is the big reason for Iowa to play Iowa state? It prevents them from ever scheduling any other major conference OOC game. It’s Iowa States big Super Bowl, they lump the game in with only season ticket packages and blocks of trash games to sell their tickets and raise revenues.

Iowa charitably agrees to gate shares favorable to Iowa state for the game only when they could bend them over. Iowa would have no problem scheduling more marketable games and enhancing its own season ticket package and pricing.

Iowa state has a $25MM budget shortfall and their budget this year is trailing Iowa by $25MM. They have no NIL money, and the best coach they’ve ever had and only one to sustain any success just left—he was 3-6 v Iowa winning the last two with game winning 55 yard FG.

They’re never great, and usually a win v Iowa state means nothing to Iowas resume, while a loss is considered a bad loss. The two hardly compete for recruits, few marquee guys have ever chosen Iowa State over Iowa.

If you think this is a mutually beneficial game for Iowa in a 9 game league schedule, you’re a moron who knows nothing.

BYU might be comparable today, but if you think they are going to be measured up to USC as a program, you’re insane.

South Carolina is little brother to Clemson and has no hope of making the playoffs. They have played in 1 SEC title, lost by 39 points, and have never been invited to a major bowl. They need a game with Clemson. It’s the bowl game that matters to them.

I don’t disagree, but things drastically change. Look at IU and Vanderbilt as evidence. BYU was objectively closer to than the Playoffs than USC. Also, BYU isn’t Nevada or New Mexico State. They’re usually a top-25 team.

They were almost in it last year. What about Florida? Also, you missed the whole point of my post.

Dumbest thing I've read today

Many Iowa fans hate the Iowa State game because it does nothing for us. Win, and you were supposed to win. Lose, and it's an embarrassment. Iowa wins the game 70% of the time anyways.

The worst part is that annual ISU game plus the conference schedule prevents Iowa from scheduling a home/home with other P4 schools. It gets freaking old playing Iowa State every damn year in a "no win" game and not being able to schedule an SEC or ACC school.

ETA: Notre Dame approached Iowa about playing next year. Iowa tried to renegotiate the ISU game to make it work. Jamie Pollard at ISU wouldn't budge. So Iowa lost out on playing ND and ND is playing Wisconsin instead.

So frick Iowa State. Not only does it suck to be stuck playing them but now they're costing Iowa high profile games.
