Depends on what part of the state you're in my friend. There is a reason why most of the players who make it professionally in basketball are from North LA.

I think we discovered why public schools want to split.

There is only one solution: divide the state in half, maybe draw a line right below Alexandria. Have the two halves develop their own constitution. Have the north champ play the south champ. Problem solved. Oh but wait,,,, this would only work until some butt hurt didn't win something and decide to change the rules again. Better yet, divide the state into 4 quadrants.

You as a West Monroe fan complaining about another team being in a lot of state championships is pretty funny.

Yea and the fact that non select supporters say that only private schools recruit is laughable. Go to a middle school game and see how many coaches are there. West Monroe recruits just as much as JC or Evangel. It is ridiculous to say that there is an unfair advantage

Publics have to recruit their own kids to come to their school, because every private within cumshot is there recruiting. So yes, publics recruit, but they are recruiting their kids to stay in their school. Let the privates only use those that are zoned to them and watch what happens.

That is crap. Take off your public school glasses and really look at it. Publics recruit all over and not just their zones. West Monroe is famous for taking kids out of other public schools to get them on their campus. Just ask Bradie James for one.

West Monroe just doesn't want anybody to be able to cheat like them.

Yeah, all of this recruiting has really paid off for WM. Zero TRIPS to the Dome since the split. Haven't even played for a title in 4 years, much less won. Might want to stop crying about a kid EIGHTEEN YEARS AGO. Good lord, Bradie James came to a WM team that was back to back 5A state champs, returning 17 starters, and you are STILL whining about him almost 2 decades later.

West Monroe won because of Don Shows and his ability to unify a community, coaching staff, and team. He demanded excellence from his guys every day and hard work paid off. Some will blame holdbacks. I've got news for you, kids are still holding back all around the state. The man could flat out coach. We've seen what has happened to WM since his departure. I don't think we'll ever see a run like what he put together in the 90's/early 00's.

The reason WM went on that run was the strength and conditioning program was light years ahead of anyone else in the state at the time other than ASH. That's why WM dominated every powerlifting meet during that time period. Now everyone has caught up. Everyone is lifting year round. Everyone is participating in 7 on 7. The playing field is as level as it has ever been. That's why I deplore the split. I wish it never happened and I wish it would be abolished. In fact, I'm in favor of going back to 4 classes. We lost a lot of population from Katrina and really don't need 5 classes, much less 9 "State Champs".

You are very naive on this issue. You are aware that for a public school to get a transfer, all they have to do is get a kid to move in their district and he is eligible? Or wait, they could just lie about where or who the kid is living with. That happens a lot. If a kid transfers to a private school, he has to sit a year regardless of where he lives. Recruiting advantage...public.

In the last couple years, besides Markel, who else is from the North that made it to the league? BR and Nola dominate producing NBA players.

Which is why they identify the kids they want before high school and get them on campus. Their recruits, for the most part, don't sit out any meaningful time.

They have to sit out a year regardless of when they choose to attend the school.

So, if a kid transfers to a private in sixth grade, he has to sit out a year of high school ball?

He would be ineligible for the year he transferred.

Correct, this reinforces my point. That is for LHSAA privates. If a kid transfers to an MPSA private, he can play right away.

They have to move into the public district, or lie and open themselves up to being caught, to even attend the school...do they not? That's a different issue than just sitting a year. If someone wants to attend a private school in another parish is there anything stopping them, other than being ineligible in athletics for a year?
