It feels like Okie Lite football died when Boone Pickens died.

They finished in the top 10 in '21 and top 20 in '23. Gundy just got mad about the changing landscape of the sport so he quit doing his job.

He died in 2019. We were 12-2 in 2021 with one of those losses being in the conference championship game. We were in the conference championship game again in 2023.

It's crazy, when OU and Texas left, the Pokes were in prime position to run the Big 12, even made the Big 12 title game and won Bedlam the last year they were in it. Then they just imploded in a major way. Kinda fascinating to see honestly.

He and Dabo were pretty loud against the NIL/ portal when everyone else realized that was the new normal and adapted. Both he and Dabo are struggling to keep their heads above water, but I think Gundy is the first to drown and be fired.

At least Dabo still won the ACC last year. Gundy gets to see OU and Texas leave, the major hurdles for OSU in the Big 12, and what do they do? They go 3-9 and now he can't even beat in state G5 schools. I get the philosophical comparisons but Gundy's fall is a different level all on its own.

I don’t think Gundy cares if he’s fired or not. He’s had a good career and is sick of the NIL like a lot of the older coaches. I’m sure they’ll let him gracefully retire or resign at the end of the season. I’m sure he’ll end up on tv somewhere.

Dabo and Gundy are victims of their own stubborness. Change with the game or the game will pass you by.

If Nick Saban couldn't change NIL and transfers these two goobers damn sure can't.

He'd rather leave early to beat the traffic?

I have always (and still do) view that Okie State job as a sleeping giant. The right coach could win big there.

Yep. I think, like Saban, Gundy is disgusted with the current state of college football with NIL and the transfer portal.

They had a losing record across the history of their entire program before they got Gundy. oSu has won 33.8% more games per year under him than they did before him. Who the frick is the "right coach" to awaken this "sleeping giant" if not him

And I'm not saying he's currently the right guy. It seems obvious the NIL era has passed him by, whether because he doesn't know how to play the NIL game or doesn't care to.

But what exactly do you think oSu's ceiling is as a program? They were a perennial 6-6 type team before him. (Slightly below that technically, but we'll go with that.) Under him they've been an 8-4 type team. They're the second school in a state that honestly lacks the money or demographics to support even one elite program on its own. The one elite program in the state has to poach a bunch of talent from Texas as it is. How much better than 8-4 can you realistically expect year in and year out?

Have you looked at the teams that have made the playoffs and big bowl games recently?

LSU was a sleepy giant before Saban.

Very true. Saban said i don't want no part of NIL so i'm out. Gundy will force them to fire him he wont just resign. Just my opinion.
