Actually you are missing the point. You are saying team “dropped” but that’s assuming the previous week poll is some kind of universal truth or mathematically proof. But using that poll BYU was 11th which is out of the playoffs with 2 lower ranked teams getting auto bids so them dropping is irrelevant. Whether Bama should have “dropped” just changes the matchup.

If you compare the 2 teams Bama has a better overall resume than BYU, sorry

86 of the last 88 ranked teams that lost CCGs (including BYU, OSU, North Texas and UVA this year) moved down in the rankings. The only exceptions are TCU in 2022 (who lost by 3 in OT) and 2025 Alabama, who lost 28-7.
