Just saw the replay and it was definitely a helmet to helmet hit on Jimmy G on 3rd and 5. If the ref calls it correctly then it's a 15 yard penalty and a new set of downs. Go back and watch the replay and you will see. It's very obvious.

Mahomes took a swinging hand to the helmet also...no call. If you have no dog in the fight, you should call it both ways.

Several calls that you normally see called when the qb is involved were not called tonight which worked well.

The only semi bad calls that I can remember were the Kittle opi and I didn't think the second to last td got in. I thought that he was about an inch short when his foot hit oob

I went back and watched. No it wasn't. I even slowed it down. The guy came in fast, but didn't even hit his helmet.

And they could have called hands to the face against Mahomes..

Refs didn't cause the Niners to abandon the run while up for two straight possessions.

You are blind. Watch Jimmy G's helmet and how it is pushed up. Do you know how to pause the video? Obviously not. The defender lowered his head and led with it and hit Jimmy G under his faceguard. Very clear.

I wouldn't call it "very obvious". The refs seemed intent on letting a lot of stuff go anyway, but as long as it's consistent for both sides, I have no problem with it. Particularly in a Super Bowl.

this whole year they have been letting guys get away with roughing up QBs

seen it in almost every prime time game this year and nothing was called, i even saw brady get clubbed in the head AND tackled low below the knees at the same time by 2 players and nothing was called and both of those were blatant and obvious penalties with no call

i think roger made the call to stop treating QBs with kid gloves and only call the most blatant hits

The about to be TD offensive PI by the Niners reeked of KC favoritism being 100 NFL years and having a team at the beginning win again.

That's almost never called in regular season, hand fighting, but called in the Super Bowl?

NFL is ruining Pro Sports much as the NBA already has...but the idea is to keep games close as NBA commish admonished his officials as we now know.

Huh? The 49ers had played in the NFL for 20 years before the Chiefs did.

There was like 5 seconds left in the half there. SF wasn’t scoring at TD

Putting your hand on the defenders shoulder and pushing him away is not hand fighting.

Correct call.

Haha...you don't have a dog in the fight. Sure. He led with his arms first (like the NFL teaches to avoid penalties) and the first contact made was with his arms and Jimmy G's hands as he is reaching out to tackle him. That was the initial contact. This is clear if you know how to pause a video (which obviously you do not). He did not hit him in the helmet to initiate contact which is what matters in regards to receiving a penalty. The rule does not prohibit incidental contact by the mask or non-crown part of the helmet.

I thought it was definitely OPI as well. Had this conversation with a few ppl tonight. Fully extended his arm and clearly affected the path of the defender.

Would have been a pretty weak call:
