Nothing screams mountains and the west like DeKalb, IL.

In fairness though, they aren’t blazing new trails nowadays in being a geographical oddball.

Does this open the door for Larry Bird's Sycamores to move up?

Good riddance. It's a mediocre school with a bland campus in a non-descript town.

Nothing screams Atlantic Coast like California.

The money should be significantly better than what they get from the MAC at this point. Not sure what it might be in the future but it's pretty obvious staying in the MAC is the road more likely to lead to being relegated to a lower division

But is it so much better that the extra travel cost is worth it?

I mean... I assume their board ran the numbers and the answer is yes.

This is a weird one. If they joined the old MW, I'd get it, but the new MW is gonna have a hard time getting the G5 spot in the playoff.

Not sure that's worth knocking all your other sports down to a lower tier conference.

Apparently this move is football only, and the other sports are moving to the Horizon League, which makes geographic sense.

I thought the move was stupid initially, but I've heard and read some reasonable arguments for it in the last couple of days. More money obviously, but even if future MWC broadcast deals aren't as lucrative with the departures, they will still likely be more than the MAC's, just from the expanded footprint.

And as another poster pointed out, midweek MACtion has tanked average game attendance at NIU, and throughout the league. To repeat others, I'm sure they ran the numbers and figured that "exposure" wasn't worth it, and they better move now, or maybe never again.

NIU officials should’ve consulted Master Abe 1 before making this move. They clearly didn’t run the numbers. But he did. And now guess what? They’re fukkkdd.

It really is hilarious when you step back and think about this shite

A bunch of never-beens on tigerdroppings running a university’s athletic department from their couches on their iPhones

And the REALLY funny part is these morons genuinely think they’re qualified to make these types of decisions

Look, I get it… sports forums like this are meant for discussions… 100% agree. But some of you guys really think your opinions are better than what they are when you have no fricking clue about anything in that world

Because the suits that do this for a living have clearly never made a wrong decision…
