Well there’s a nice teenager response. Show me what I said was false. The city and Fulton county govt sucks arse.
The traffic is not fixable.

It certainly was for the Braves when they had the map on the front of the AJC.

The NHL in Atlanta can work. As others have said it needs to be based in the Northern suburbs like the Braves because the NHL will always appeal to a certain demographic and you have to make it easier for that demographic to get to games. The NHL is a niche sport and you want people to commit to 40 home games per year. The NFL and NBA has much wider demographic base of support.

No disagreement here.

If MARTA were to expand it would fix it some, but it's always gonna be what it is. Atlanta is a major city w/major city traffic, just have to deal w/it. And get a Peach Pass. That thing is a life saver.

Been some word they might go to 34 to make up for covid losses. NHL took it worse than most leagues. Horrible idea I know.

It's a niche sport that wants to grow its appeal, and let's be honest, Atlanta has the largest black middle class in the country. The NHL wants that demo, and ATL allows an opportunity that nowhere else in the country does. The Thrash had a growing black demo at their games towards the end, as well, because the team was actively courting black fans.

Anson Carter (who should have been a Thrasher during 2005 free agency, but whatever) is heavily involved in the Gladiators' ownership group, is a pundit on TNT, and lives in Atlanta.

I'd bet dollars to donuts that guy is heavily involved in this bid, and for good reason.

Part of the reason the Braves move is working is that they are really good right now. Will the new team be good immediately? Vegas certainly was, Seattle really hasn't been that great so far.

Also, Can they capture what the Preds have in downtown Nashville in the Atlanta suburbs? If you go to a Preds game I promise you it won't be the last you go to. Can they create an environment like that in Atlanta? I'm skeptical but would like to see it regardless.

Imagine how much they really could've done if ASG actually wanted to keep the Thrashers.

Depends on how it's built. I like the Battery (helps that I only live 10 minutes away), but even then there is a sense of "drive-to urbanism" with the complex that doesn't feel as authentic as a more city location.

In any case, both the Battery and this venue needed MARTA extensions yesterday.

Atlanta Airport Authority owns about 100,000 acres up around Dahlonega widely believed to be a potential site for a second Atlanta airport.

It will also likely never be built for many reasons, the primary ones being the end of the African-American jobs program know as Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport and the fact that if it is built, about 75% of the current passenger traffic through Hartsfield would disappear. Delta would likely move most of their operations there and that would kill Hartsfield.

There's even been talk of expanding Chattanooga Regional as a Southwest hub for the northern burbs. Honestly, anything north of Kennesaw is easier to get to CHA than ATL.

I'm in the Rome area; I can get to ATL in 90 minutes. I can get to Chattanooga in about the same amount of time or maybe a little less. I can get to Birmingham in about 1:40.

Until Southwest bought Airtran, I could play BHM and ATL against each other on business trips. Chattanooga wasn't really an option because I could get the same flight from ATL at a better price.

I don't know dude. I think it's unrealistic for the NHL to think every demographic group in the US is going to become fans of the NHL. Hispanics are bigger than Blacks and I don't see the NHL making inroads into that market. Same thing with Asians.

Lyndsey Vonn could date every Black player in the NHL and I don't see it making any big difference.

It's about 10,000 acres, and that was purchased back in the 70s for a possible second airport (the city decided to rebuild/expand Hartsfield instead).

Every NIMBY in Dawson, Forsyth, Cherokee, and Lumpkin counties would kill any attempt at an airport to begin with, and especially one that could handle Hartsfield's current operations. Delta is pretty happy in their current position.

Also, why would the city of Atlanta want to kneecap its own airport?
