Mikko Rantanen is coming if we can get his contract extension figured out.
I can't believe they sent Stanky! The best last name in hockey and a damn good young player.

THE STARS AT NIGHT ARE BIG AND BRIGHT!

Rantanen jersey will be on deck if we can sign him long term

I wonder if we'll add a blue liner right at the deadline to not have to rely on Middelton if we have an injury there.

I think that EJ's return is going to be the shot in the arm for this team that Gabe coming back was in 2022. No, that doesn't mean hoisting the Cup, but even in the interviews following practice today you could absolutely hear the excitement of the players, even Toews did the Condor coming off the ice. Nathan MacK put it best:

"He's not going to get a lot of minutes and he'll be the best guy in the locker room."

Probably a sign of EJ's final push, so he'll give us all he has (as he always did), and that Gabe is not looking at a return this season (we know, likely never again).

I'm just glad to have The Condor back in Denver.

I wouldn't be happy if I was a Hurricanes player or fan. They got a bunch of draft picks back for Rantanan. Which may help them in the future. But it doesn't help them win now. Which is what was supposed to be the goal. Hall and Stankoven combined are nowhere close to the player Necas is.

Yeah Carolina has been in win now mode for a few years and are objectively worse than they were a few months ago
They will still struggle to score deeper in the playoffs

Yet they still have better betting odds for the Cup than Vegas… doesn’t make sense.

Canes fan here - I'm cautiously optimistic right now. I miss Necas, but he is very streaky and will disappear for games on end. It was frustrating to watch. Rantanen was arse while here and apparently was open about not willing to sign long term. I have no problem moving him as opposed to getting nothing. Hall has been better than I expected and I like Stankoven. We shall see.

Necas is having his best year. I don't know what you see in Hall, but he has 3 points in 13 games since the trade. That's not someone I want to count on. Tolsky could have easily offered a contract to Rantanen before the trade (like the Stars did) if he was that worried he would lose him for nothing. If he won't accept the contract, then don't make the trade.

That is why they sold high on Necas. Obviously, nobody knows how he will be going forward, but this season was an anomaly. So they tried to go big and took a chance they could convince Rantanen to sign long-term. When he was unwilling and clearly not the same player for Carolina as he was on the Avs, they made another move. Sometimes trades work, and sometimes they don't. But I am not upset they tried. I think what they got in return was a nice recovery.

I think he'll be fitting right on in with MacKinnon and some combination with Lehkonen/Nichushkin for years to come

EDIT: Just looking at the Avalanche's salary cap situation, that Rantanen move really clears things up quite a bit for us moving forward. If we move on from one of (or both) of Manson and Girard, you're looking at quite a bit of wiggle room with the cap to play around and get even deeper/potentially keep Nelson on his final contract.

All he had to do was consult with a doctor or trainer what was legal to take.

Ekblad news is crazy

Nate gets his 1000th point! (Twice actually first was ruled offside after the fact)
Avs struggle mightily for third time this season v shitty Chicago

God the Wild are so unbelievably boring

They had the puck for over 4 minutes of OT and didn't even shoot. They were so scared to screw up they just held possession for the shootout.
They did win in the shootout and Blackwood looked horrible (that was Georgie's strength go figure), but what an embarrassment.

Kraken won a fun game over the Habs, 5-4.

Overtime lasted… 5 seconds!

Brandon Montour with the dagger off the faceoff in OT.
