I would imagine playing a national anthem is done at the professional level elsewhere?
I don’t believe it is
Just in the United States
That’s why I like it, makes us unique
Love god bless America 7th inning stretch too

From the European and South American basketball and soccer I’ve watched, the only time I’ve seen an anthem played was before the English FA Cup final. They don’t even do it in the champions league or euro league basketball. International tournaments? They do play them

This is really where we are heading isn't it? I sure miss the days where it was okay to be united as a country..
I still got decked out in my red white and blue old navy gear and grilled hot dogs a couple weekends ago.

Im just saying I couldn’t even tell you the last time I watched college game day or any corny arse nfl pregame show. I know when the game kicks off and that’s usually when i tune in.

It promotes nationalism and patriotism.
That's why they're trying to ruin the tradition.

Is that when the white players take a knee, and why is this even necessary?
I know you tease, but non black players don't have black privilege. They would be disciplined. Calls to be benched or outright thrown off the team. And of course the teams would cater to the cancel culture mob. I know black people who question why don't white people speak up and stand up to this stuff. Maybe because they don't want to be labeled racist and lose their careers over it?
Only certain people can object and not lose their career. Let's just all protest. 24/7 and never be united.

yeah, same for me. but it’s because it’s all politically charged or full of feel good fluffy garbage. i want sports with my sports, not helping of politics and scoop of feelings. frick all that.

European and South American leagues have players from all over the world. I'd bet that less than 25% of them are from the country they are playing in. The NFL has players that are from one country primarily. 99.99% of them are from America.
Quite the difference.

However, why is dumb in your opinion to play a national anthem at a major sporting event
It’s a relic from the days of the World War. Is there really a need for it anymore?

What's the point of objecting
Do you MFers even know the meaning of double standard? When social justice woke bullshite pops up, people just forget to use logic in any way, shape, or form.

why compete in the Olympics anymore? since countries, patriotism, borders, and anthems are all relics from the days of the World War (singular, apparently)

an admittedly truly shameful stain on our country’s history.
but which country is a better representation of a cultural mixing pot? which country has provided more freedom and rights to immigrants from other nations? which country has provided more economic opportunity to minorities?
is that not enough for one to be proud of their country? to be proud of to hear their country’s anthem? to proudly wear and fly their country’s flag?
guess not huh? Not to S, gadknot, or sorantable

And yes in this instance World War is singular, as it’s impossible for something to begin in two separate times

I’d feel bad about myself if I weren’t “destroyed” in a thread like this

is there where you pretend your life doesn’t revolve around tigerdroppings and slowly back out of this thread?
