NFL Ratings are up!

Cowboys-Cardinals got a 9.3 overnight rating for ESPN, easily the highest-rated Monday night game of the year. That came despite some talk that the controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem would depress NFL ratings.
The 9.3 overnight rating is way up from last year’s Week Three Monday night game

A better measurement is that the four Monday Night Football games so far this season have averaged a 7.8 overnight rating, compared to a 6.5 overnight rating for the first four Monday Night Football games last season. And even if you throw out the game that went up against the debate last year, Monday Night Football is up year to date over the 2016 average.

Cowboys effect
It can't go both ways. You can't say "Sunday night ratings are down...see?!" when the Cowboys played on SNF last year and this year it was a crap Raiders/Redskins game.

I would imagine people just wanted to see how the Cowboys handled the anthem, next Sunday will probably have lower ratings than this past Sunday

There was a presidential debate on Monday night of last year that drew in over 80 million people.

Boy did Jerry succumb to the mighty NFL. Figured he would. I didn't watch and never will again.

People aren't going to stop watching football unless they stop playing football.

Combining this information with another thread, it looks like the ratings are up from Week 3 of last year. Which is surprising.

Can't wait to hear all the excuses

Well...the biggest excuse is the fact that on the same night as Week 3 of Monday Night Football last year there was the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump. That debate drew in over 80 million people, making it the most watched presidential debate in U.S. history.
So it stands to reason that MNF ratings for Week 3 would be up this year from last year, considering most people were watching the presidential debate while the game was on.

I'm not smart enough to figure it out, but I wonder what the ratings would be if you replaced last year's MNF number with a normal number.

It's almost like vocal minorities don't speak for the views of the larger population.
That being said, I'm more interested to see how next week's ratings are affected. I'd imagine there were a lot of folks tuning in out of curiosity this week.
