a development league. 8 Teams, Every team sends players to each team.
the game is suffering from horrible OL,QB, and even WR play, because college kids aren't being developed, they are being used the way the coaches want for their purposes, not kids best interest.(not CFB coaches problem, but it's hurting NFL product)
And only reason NFL Europe stopped, is because the owners are cheap bastards, who don't want to spend a nickel.
But the game quality is poor, and will continue to become even more mediocre, unless they can get a development league going.
One of the analytic guys claimed that 9 OL last week, had lower scores than any OL had in all of last season. That was just last week, imagine as more injuries happen. Just terrible.
It's not College footballs job to develop these kids for the NFL, but to mold them to their system for their own gain, to win. Time for some of these kids to get to learn, before being thrown to the wolves, or just cut, because they have no clue how to do the simple things, because in college they didn't teach those techniques.
They said the quality of OL has taken the worse hit, because of Teams simplifying the schemes to fit their gimmick offenses.

The excuse will be "but no one would watch it"
No one watches NBA d league games either. Not many watch minor league baseball.

NFL owners will eventually cave andcdo this...about 5 years late.

Many people go to minor league baseball games. They don't watch on TV due to the prevalence of MLB games on at the same time.
If the NFL played minor league games on Tuesday night, they'd clean up the ratings. Especially in relatively smaller college football crazy towns like Austin, Columbus, Baton Rouge, etc.

maybe, but the NBA is one that should do that. they have ruined college basketball with the one and done players. they need to just go straight from high school and leave college for the guys wanting to play at least 3 years.

I think if you put teams in fooball crazy areas, and keep some of the kids locally, you would have minor fan interest.
But NFL needs to worry about the product, not fans for a development league. It's only going to get worse if something isn't done.
Seriously, go look at the QB position around the NFL, then look at backups, and then 3rd stringers. It's laughable how bad the QB position has become.
Being able to draft them, let them develop with out being killed would save teams $$$ down the road.

Not sure why this got so many downvotes. I like the idea. You are also correct when you mention the fact that it's not college coach's' responsibility to coach up these kids for the NFL. It's their job to win for the universities that pay them.

Double a averages around 6 thousand and triple a averages around 7 thousand, all in 10-15 thousand stadiums. I imagine it's more of a "we need a developmental league and if we can sell seats to make up some of the costs, let's sell seats."
The rangers double a team in DFW was the highest attended in the Texas league and their average was well below capacity. I've gone opening day several times and the park is not full.
It serves it purpose though, creates local interest and makes a little money while prepping players for the big leagues.

There are 32 NFL teams with 53 man rosters and small practice squads. There are around 130 FBS teams that can have 85 on scholarship and then walk-ons, and a ton of different systems. Usually a team will try something to exploit a perceived weakness at the college level. Like GT running the option, or smaller schools using a spread or hurry up. It works at that level because of the differences in talent levels. Once you get to the pros, there is parity.
The NFL and the 3 year rule is them trying to get someone else to develop players without it costing them anything, but without direct control over the NCAA teams, they can't complain about players not being ready for the style of play at in the NFL. I agree with you, if they want a better product, they should do something different. But if it does happen, it will be done on the cheap and probably too late.

I agree. There needs to be a level between CFB and NFL.

The NFL should allow players to enter into the developmental league and earn some money and enter as soon as they graduate high school but not be eligible for the NFL draft until they would have been eligible had they gone to college.
That way they can develop in a football focused environment. Problem is it would hurt the college game but who cares the NCAA should have been paying football players years ago but stupid title nine would dictate they pay other sports as well.

More football is not the answer.
I get what you're saying regarding product on the field, but I think the dwindling numbers are due to football fatigue after it's become a year round focus.
Add to that, the constant need to fix something that isn't broken. People are tired of constantly having to relearn the game.

I completely disagree. I also completely disagree that you can develop players after college. Maybe to a degree, but if you haven't learned the game by the age of 20 you likely never will. None of it is that difficult.
I also disagree with your logic the game is going in the wrong direction. I would argue that the better players are so much better than 10-20+ years ago that it makes the lower end players look that much worse. Its not the better players are not as good, its just there are a lot more of them and there is a bigger gap between the all stars and the average players then there has been in the past.
Sure plenty of guys play on college teams that don't prepare them well, but most of those guys catch on pretty quick. The stars certainly do, its the guys with the poor work ethics or lack of the necessary athleticism that fall behind once they get to the NFL.

That was just last week, imagine as more injuries happen.
The NFL is a short career league for most players, and creating a D league will not prolong those players careers but in fact shorten them.
