That’s how it’s always been

Do these Saints really need to be broadcast nationally? I believe you should have to earn your prime time games

Agree i hardly watch the NFL at all anymore as it is.
You’re the only one. Ratings continue to surge. Much better than college football.

I don’t remember him on mnf at all.
Madden did Monday nights, but only for like 3 or 4 years between his FOX and NBC stints. So yeah, still odd for the OP to say MNF lost appeal without him.

The older I get the less I care to watch the NFL. It kind of sucks. Used to love NFL sundays.
I still love college football and have games on all day Saturday.

I just want Thursday night games gone. The product is terrible 9 times out of 10 and they’re always littered with injuries.
It’s all but obliterated games between ranked power conference teams, which used to not be so rare on Thursdays.

My reason for not liking the NFL broadcast takeover is because it’s taken away decent CFB on Thursday. CFB doesn’t want to compete, and I get it. In today’s economic climate, I’m not paying for Peacock, Paramount, Prime, and all that other BS for a game. If I REALLY need to see it, I’ll go to a bar.
My NFL interest has been super low this year. I have no idea why. I’m a Cowboys fan, so that’s part of it. I’ll watch the playoffs for sure, but I don’t care to tune in on Black Friday or Christmas. Half the time I wonder if the game is a replay because of the timing.
I also think the amount of streaming available has dampened my interest. I’m the oldest 39 year old I know. I’d rather watch some documentary I haven’t seen than a random NFL game. When I was a kid, that option didn’t exist. I watched MNF, Sunday Night, etc.

3 things happened after the 2005 season that killed the appeal of MNF.
1. Moving from ABC to ESPN. Say what you want but primetime on a major network was way better than primetime on ESPN for national appeal.
2. NFL deciding that SNF should be the marquee game instead of MNF.
3. Replacing Al Michaels and John Madden with Tony Kornheiser, Mike Tirico, and Joe Theismann.
Yes, Madden was only on MNF for 4 seasons, but it was must watch TV all four seasons unlike Dennis Miller and Dan Fouts of the late 90s and Mike Tirico and Tony Kornheiser of the late 2000s.
I and many many others were paying way more attention to the SNF game with Michaels and Madden over the MNF game.
In 2003, ESPN averaged 6.4M while MNF averaged 16.8 M.
In 2004, SNF averaged 6.8M while MNF averaged 16.4 Million.
In 2005, Sunday Night Football averaged 9.25 Million viewers, MNF averaged 16.4 Million.
In 2006, Sunday Night Football averaged 17 million viewers each week. The highest watched MNF game in 2006 was 16M for Giants/Cowboys and 15M for Saints/Falcons. Sunday Night Football had 4 games with over 20M viewers while MNF had 5 games with less than 10M viewers.
In 2007, SNF averaged 17.5 Million viewers. MNF averaged 12.3 M viewers.
In 2008, SNF averaged 16.8 M viewers. MNF averaged 12 M viewers.
In 2009, SNF averaged 19.4 Million viewers, MNF averaged 14.4 M viewers.
Madden was just 1 part of the 3 things, not the focus of the post.

Agree. Players are pulling the load management card, some games mean very little, star players are getting injured, not enough rest between games.
Too much of a good thing.

Ehh, if there was an NFL game on Tuesday night I'd be watching it.
