NFL and automatic first down

Seems like every penalty on the D is an automatic first.

The NFL has become unwatchable as far as Ike concerned.
Every time time a defender makes a halfway decent play, it seems like flags are flying.
And I agree that not every penalty should be an automatic first down.
This is the main reason why I have a hard time calling some of today's QBs among the best ever. The rules are skewed to the point where you have to be really bad to not put up huge numbers.

College football is a better watch at this point. I watch the saints because im programmed to do so and aaron rodgers every week and im fine with that. This has to hurt the product sooner or later.

I'll catch Sunday Night Football every now and then, but other than that its a non watch for me. The product is absolutely terrible and the flags are a complete joke.

The illegal hands to the face at the line of scrimmage and personal fouls for inadvertently touching the QB's helmet are unacceptable and should definitely not be automatic first downs.

One of the things I absolutely love about hockey is the constant flow of action - teams only get one timeout per game, very few penalties in comparison to nfl/nba, very few pauses in the game for commercial breaks.

They just had a full commercial break after a punt with 13 seconds left to go at the half. That sucks.
Of course, ESPN snuck in a commercial break after a kickoff during the LSU/EMU game too.

In the oregon game last night they took a 4 minute commercial break and waited until the break was over to decide to review a play that was obviously called wrong on the field.

Completely agree. I prefer the college game, but i'm not blind to the fact that it's a poor product as well.

The penalty doesn't fit the crime.
In a fair logical system, if
Defensive holding/Personal foul results in 1st downs, then Offensive holdings/personal foul should result in 4 downs.
It should go both ways, but we know NFL wants ratings and to give people what they want. Let's be honest, the average football is not that smart and NFL is just catering to them.

The NFL has required ten commercial breaks per half for awhile now.
As far as scoring goes, the average NFL team scores 23.5 points in 2015.
99/127 DI teams average greater than 23.5 points per game. In fact, Baylor is one of the top teams in the country and averages 63.5 points per game. Yet, the NFL is the one encourages way too much offense.
The hypocrisy on this board is laughable. The southeast is a pocket where college football is more the NFL, but I think a lot of people on here are just butthurt the Saints suck.
