You’re paying $14.5M to QBs no longer on your squad and you’ve got Tebow-lite as your starter.
I’m not a saints fan so no I don’t but this is a weird thing to highlight given they are on the verge of trading for a highly successful young (and expensive) QB, which ultimately kind of kills your entire point you want to make

Watson is going to Atlanta

Certainly possible. But that decision wouldn’t be made because of the Saints cap space and the falcons are going to have to use that exact same cap magic tactics as the saints do to make that deal work as well so again, I’m not even sure what you’re trying to argue here

If you’re agreeing that they couldve resigned those players then what exactly is your argument? Clearly the cap was not the issue in resigning those players if they had the ability to resign those players but ultimately chose not to match the open market price Again plenty of teams with tons of cap space lose free agents in the offseason. Doesn’t mean the cap prevented them from resigning those players, simply they did not feel the value of the player matched the highest offer on the market, or felt good about in-house or potential replacements in the market (or simply the player did not want to resign) There is a cost to these deals, but it isn’t a massive cost that’s going to hamstring a team until the teams owner decides they are tired of paying out of pocket to free up more space
I’m agreeing that the Saints could have signed those players. However, they would do so at the expense of the rest of their roster. Your explanation for free agents leaving is missing a likely scenario. They believe the highest offer is a fair value, but they decline to match because of their current situation. It’s my belief that this has happened to the Saints.
I find it laughable to paint the Saints as some model for manipulating the Salary Cap. They have made a significant number of questionable decisions the last few years.

You can always kick it down the road which is fine when you're trying to win one with Brees. But at some point you gotta get on the right side of the situation and just eat shite if you're not a contender.

The decision not to match, is a decision based on player value, not cap space. If the Saints felt those players were worth those contracts, they had the ability to make it happen. Teams do this every offseason for every available player.
The saints are clearing massive amounts of cap space without losing any players, so I fail to see where it is “at the expense of the rest of the roster”. The cap is being freed up by simply converting salary to signing bonuses or adding fake years to the deal to spread out a large cap hit over many years

Having the ability to make moves doesn’t guarantee that those moves are good moves.
You’re arguing two separate things as 1 here. In simple terms, teams can ask themselves two questions for an available player “can we?”- in which the answer is yes, and that’s not really up for debate, it’s been shown. The second question is “should we”- which is obviously a lot more subjective. Teams answer this questions wrong all the time and there’s no way to always answer it correctly.

After asking around, feeling is Falcons have stood strong in Deshaun Watson process and Watson has felt the love as far as the team's plan and recruitment, with many people reaching out. Falcons can load up in 2023 w/ ample cap space. Short term, can add FA WRs and RBs pieces.

Him and Watson have the same agent FWIW.

Feels like all that’s left is for the falcons to find a dance partner for Matt Ryan until it’s officially announced

Dude you lost this argument. Loomis understood things in 2007 that other GM's needed an extra 10 years to understand.
He's a savant and a salary cap genius - the only downside is that Payton and Brees didn't get to any more Super Bowls when they should have made at least 2 more.

We we will have to agree to disagree on that issue. Player value is more important, but cap space is a consideration. It is for every team in the league, but the Saints.
The expense of the team come in the near future when you have massive dead cap invested in old players like Davis, Jordan, Jenkins, or average ones like Taysom.

None of that has anything to do with the current situation. Continue to bury your head in the sand.

Do you though? Lets say you 'get right' after 1 year and set it at 0. You still have 200mil to spend, you can still "borrow" money by backloading into next year.
If you continue to borrow, there's no limitation regardless, all to say it doesn't matter if you play the same way with the $ (i.e. borrowing future money).

Again, “can we” vs “should we” is the difference.
The saints right now have the ability to trade for one of the most expensive players in the league at the most premiere position, despite “sacrificing”. They “can” sign anyone they want right now with the right number of cap manuvering. You can debate all day whether making that move is smart, but it is actually possible. So after a decade of kicking the can and figuring it out, they still have the ability to get the highest premium on the market, so what exactly is the cap preventing?

Another example of something that teams have to deal with no matter their cap situation. Another major component to this philosophy is having a core worth pushing the chips all in for
Once that core isn’t worth that level of investment, saints can bite the bullet and do a hard reset that would get them back into a normal level of dead cap within 1 season. It’s incredibly easy to turn around your cap situation if that’s your goal. It’s also really easy to manipulate your cap space to open up more to add to your roster to contend for a super bowl if that’s your goal as well.
Cap numbers are speed bumps, not roadblocks

If the saints do ever hit this point, think of it this way- imagine being the other 10-15 teams every year who eat shite without the excuse of going all in for a Super Bowl the previous decade
