Didn’t Rivera win the division with a losing record in Carolina? Would this be his 2nd division title with a losing record? Or was he 8-8 in Car? I can’t remember

Like the year the Raiders swept the AFC west but didn’t win the division. I think they only won another couple of games outside the division and ended up something like 2nd/3rd in the standings. Wasn’t enough for a wild card.

The rule should’ve been all along that you get a playoff berth but no guaranteed homefield, in my opinion. Although I see the argument too that you play your division teams so many times that lessening the importance of a division championship in any way isn’t really fair.

Tell that to the Saints when they lost to losing record division winner Seattle a few years back.

I'm fine with a losing record division winner. Its their division...they can do whatever the heck they want.

they went 7-8-1 in 2014 and won the divison.

Fun fact: the Carolina Panthers have never had back to back winning seasons in franchise history, even with winning the NFC South 3 times in a row.
