Dave Johnson of the Dan and Dave Superbowl commercial. He didn't even qualify for the Olympics that year

He got bronze in the olympics that year with a broken foot

You are thinking of Dan O'Brien. However, he ended up winning the gold in Atlanta

So calling him a failure seems a bit much

Whitey Ford didn’t injure his shoulder permanently in a bar fight IIRC.

There was a damn good story about him years ago. I think Brien Taylor ended up working construction somewhere, driving up to job sites in a sports car he bought with his signing bonus. I didn't think he got hurt in a bar fight, but in a fight at a relative's place after they had been out drinking. Think they got into it over a woman or somebody being a drunk dickhead or similar stupid bullshite. I could have the details wrong, however.

That sounds right.

I remember it being some kind of stupid brawl he shouldn’t have gotten into but not specifics.

Darius Miles. Lots of hype. Had a good rookie season and never really did much after.

Joe McKnight was pretty highly touted in high school to not really do too much. I know he had little flashes of brilliance but he was being sold as the next great generational RB when he picked USC over LSU
