Teams realize letting the other team start from the 30 is the way to go.

Yeah, it's super gay.

Like every other change they force on the league.

I don't really see the reason for the outrage tho. It's a touch back 90% of the time just like it's been the last 3 years. Big whoop.

I mean teams already did that with the regular version of the kickoff, and statistically at a higher rate

so then what was the point of the rule change? that’s the point

it’s all useless now, this new rule was them trying to “fix” something they broke, and now it not only hasnt fixed it but it also eliminated surprise onside kicks in the process

Better starting field position = more points so it is a win even if it doesn’t increase the return rate. That being said, I wish the touchback was the 35 or 40 like the xfl. Then you would see way fewer touchbacks

At worse it hasn’t been much of a difference at all, at best I’d say probably should given it more than a week before proclaiming either way

I’m pretty sure the nfl said themselves that the goal was to have most kickoffs returned.

This ain’t what they wanted.

The product gets worse every year and ratings and revenue keeps going up. NFL owners meetings are probably just them laughing at the fans for hours

Again Id wager they are going to wait more than a week to get antsy about the results of the change

I don’t mind kickoff too much but forcing teams to declare an onside kick is straight garbage.

Wouldn't it work better if you backed the kicker up really far but set the players where they are under this setup in the same spot?

Basically guarantee a return and some action without the 50 yard head of steam?

Assuming we can't just go back to knocking skulls again, which would still require backing up the kicker due to leg strength.

Start putting them at the 40...the NFL doesn't want kickoff returns. They have to pretend like they do.
