I have a closet full of the tackiest 90's Hornets gear imaginable. And my dad's Starter jacket

As for the Hornet confusion it'll pass over time. It's not like the Hornet name was in NOLA for decades and then just appeared somewhere else. People will forget over time that the Pelicans are the original Hornet franchise in the similar way that people forget that the original Cleveland Browns are actually the Baltimore Ravens.

It will never be that clean since the "Baltimore Browns" never played a game. The "New Orleans Hornets" played in NOLA for a decade. That's not nothing.

I'm sure that it will pass over time, but its at least a little bit of a mess right now.

This name swap give back situation remains incredibly goofy to me, and I don't understand why the pelicans allowed it. It has to create brand confusion for the nola franchise.

In all likelihood the NBA made it part of the sale terms when benson said he'd be rebranding.

That would make sense and explain it. Thanks.

That's just speculation on my part.

Makes the most sense though, imo.

I agree. Otherwise I just can't think of a reason why the NOLA franchise would allow it. It does them no good, and potentially harms them in some ways.

Only other thing I could think of was that they felt obligated to sort of put their money where the community's mouth is after the relative stink that's been made locally over the years about getting the Jazz name back and the Utah franchise basically saying "over our dead body."
