Why the hate for Henry? He may have come in to a great team, but I really don't see how after 17 years and 25 (not sure of exact number) national championships you can say he was anything but a great coach.

As far as Seagraves goes, if he would have stayed any longer he would have destroyed the program with his off track activities.

I have nothing but respect for Henry. I can't blame him for Skip Bertman running him off.

Actually Sam Seemes was the head coach at the beginning of the women's track program with Seagrave as his assistant.

Yes but Seagraves is the reason most of the women came to LSU. As for his off track exploits, I remember when that blew up. Even those of us who thought Seagraves was an a-hole and kind of enjoyed seeing him getting the shaft since he had given it to our distance coach and forced him to resign, thought the situation was entirely overblown. The truth is assistant coaches would occasionally hookup w/ athletes. I knew professors who hooked up with students. Everyone was of legal age so no biggie.

But for some reason a coach hooking up with an athlete is viewed so much worse. If Pokey Chatman had been an English professor, her relationship with a student would have been no big deal. I guess the difference is that coaches go into parents' living rooms to recruit athletes and faculty members don't.

I've already been there.

I remember three years ago when Jordan Hasay signed with Oregon, her signing was the feature story on the front page of the Register Guard's sport section, not a football signee. Eugene has to be the only city in the nation with a big time football program where something like this is possible. Certainly no LSU baseball signee could compete with football on signing day on the front page of the Advocate's sport section.

Gotta go up to where Prefontaine died. My first time in Eugene, arrived at 10pm at night. Cabbie picked us up and asked why we were there in the summer. Told him I was a Pre nerd when I was younger. He turned off the meter and drove me up the hill to the spot.
