In what appears to be an incentive to improve the competitive spirit of NBA All-Star Games, player earnings have been increased, league sources tell ESPN. Each player on the winning team will receive $100,000, and the losing team players will pocket $25,000, league sources said. The only modification is the winner's compensation, with a $50,000 boost from previous years.

Televise the team selections. Whoever gets picked last will play like it's the NBA finals

Just wait until someone blows out a knee and ends their season because they wanted to get a $100k bonus.

Why are they trying to make the ASG into a real game? No one really cares about seeing that. They watch the game because of the dunks and trick plays. And they couldn't pay players enough to risk injury for an exhibition game

Why aren’t they all blowing out knees in the playoffs then?

It can happen anytime. But it would be a huge deal in the all Star game.

A lot of basketball injuries are fluke. Hayward landed weird on a back door cut. Boogie just went down grabbing that rebound. Paul George on a weirdly placed object. It’s all fluke and could happen in an ASG too.

NHL just gave $1M to the winning team in their AllStar tournament

I would argue that playing defense and not allowing guys to do mega dunks would make the injury risk lower due to the lesser amount of acrobatic plays.

Steph Curry is making $34.7 million this year.

He makes almost $106,000 a quarter of every regular season game he plays. $100k is pocket change to him

That $50k increase is 0.0014% of his salary

So it’s the equivalent of $72 to someone making $50k a year

It’s $108 to someone that makes $75k

And $$144 to someone who makes $100k

In other words, that increase isnt any form of motivation for these dudes.

If you told me I win $114 in an alumni game I’d ramp up the intensity

That’s such a dumb comparison. If you gave Steph $100k he could buy a Porsche Panamera.

If you gave oil field guy making $250k 200 or whatever. He can only buy 200 worth of stuff.

100k still has a real world value that people making any amount can understand. So it’s not a fair comparison.

The winning team would get $1.3M in this scenario

I would guess that you are more likely to get injured by screwing around and being more careless than usual.

He can buy more or turn this into more than these can do with these amounts.

While yes the percentages are the same,
they are not the same thing. $100 is a nice fancy meal for 2. $100k is 20% down on a $500k home.

Am I the only one who actually likes the NBA all star game? I get the pro bowl hate but look forward to the NBA all star game every year.

Yes it's not a lot of money compared to what they make in the NBA, but 100k will definitely make them care more. Not -NBA finals- more, but they will. A lot of these guys still see this as 100k like rest of us.
