Yeah or some other type of rebounding big would've helped. I just see Toronto leap frogging Washington and Boston and Chellenge Cleveland for 1st now that Love is hurt. Masai is a terrific GM

I don't understand the hate for tanking. The team would blow arse regardless. Who cares if they are 4th to last or dead last?

Losing purposely goes against the premise of the game.

I don't get it either. It's a legitimate strategy to build a contender if you're not a franchise that is going to attract top free agents.

The players aren't playing to lose. You're simply biding your time and collecting assets so that you can win in the future. That may mean trading away your best players for draft picks and getting young players.

It's like saving money. You might have to do without some things in the short term in order to be comfortable in the future.

You are making the best moves possible to ensure success. Sometimes that means temporary pain. If you are looking at winning in terms of a franchise, sometimes temporary losing is the best option to ensure long-term winning.

It's simply a rebuilding process, and it takes time.

Biggest argument I can come up with is you are fostering a losing atmosphere. Most of the 76ers don't know what it takes to win and don't expect to win. They've never done it.

I mean that's an argument from a basketball standpoint, but I was mostly talking about people who complain that it's bad for the league.

Nah what is bad for the league is that many believe only two teams actually have a shot the Cavs and Warriors. Every sport has that team tanking so that is irrelevant but it seems the NBA doesn't have as much parity as football and baseball (can't comment on hockey since I don't watch)

The parity is simply because of the smaller roster numbers. A superstar has a greater impact in basketball than any other team sport and the easiest way to get a superstar is to have a top 1-3 pick and hit on a player. So naturally the only way to go up is to go down

Considering Superstars are pairing up it is more than 1. I know people point to Cleveland and say that it is James team. That is true but Love was a superstar before coming and Irving is becoming one IMO.

Yahoo article on why Rose/Rubio deal fell through

quote:

According to NBA sources, some members of the Timberwolves organization were against dealing for Rose because his playing style could hurt the growth of young studs Andrew Wiggins and Karl-Anthony Towns.

But more so, Thibodeau, the Timberwolves coach and president, feared it would be too difficult to re-sign the point guard because of his potential max contract demands and it did not want him as a rental despite their playoff push. Thibodeau wanted to shed Rubio’s contract, but apparently not enough even with the club is on a 10-8 run.

“I love our team, I love the way we’re working,’’ Thibodeau said after the deadline at Thursday’s practice.
The Knicks wanted Rubio, but as an injury risk, demanded the Timberwolves include another asset – a draft pick or 6-10 scorer Nemanja Bjelica. The Serbian is a favorite of Knicks European scout Kevin Wilson and has averaged 5.8 points in 55 games.

The Knicks reportedly came off their extra demand in the final hour, but it became too late in the game for a straight Rubio-for-Rose swap.

Wouldn't Minnesota be demanding another asset in this scenario then?
