Every year, a board votes on a tiered list of super stars. Teams are only allowed to have so much "Star power" on their team. If a star rises up during the season and the next list puts them over the cap, then the team has to void one of the contracts

Parity issue solved, league good again. Teams have to build through young players and chemistry

Bring on the downvotes. F this boring arse league.

but if they do such a good job building with young players and chemistry they then get penalized by having too many stars?

If they become superstars, sure. There's tons of middling guys in the league. Have a superstar, develop a bunch of young guys into middle-tier, non-star talents and have good chemistry. Win.

Is the plan of most teams that aren't the LeBros and the Warriors, and the end goal is:

quote:

If a star rises up during the season

Let me guess...you think the Pelicans have the "right amount" of "star power" with Davis and Cousins.

NBA needs major reform, but a star cap is not a good way to do that.

This sounds extremely subjective.

What happens when a player is past his prime but he's still a name?

For example, Carmelo is still a really good player, but would he be included in the list of "superstar players?"

Also, you can't plan for a player that is considered an average player becoming a superstar.

No. They would have to get rid of one.

IMO, there are more star type players than teams in the NBA, so teams would definitely have more than 1.

This sounds like NBA Communism

You might be right, but what do you do to stop what GSW is doing right now? Honestly?

There is no point to even watching the NBA right now. The warriors have a 2/3 betting line to win the title.... Come on, man. We have an 82 game regular season where games are meaningless. Sure, you might win some and sneak in! And then you'll just get swept by an unstoppable super team. What is the point? Build your team for 2021 when the Warriors have to finally break up?

Sure, I'm a Pels fan. But they're bad anyway. That isn't gonna change regardless. I just don't see any reason to watch any games, but I want one.

Probably. That's why I suggested tiers. I obviously can't come up with the numbers myself, but something like: a tier 1 (SUPER STAR) would be worth, let's say, 6 points. A team is allowed 10 points worth of stars. So you could get a super star and a low-grade (tier 3). Just an example.

I see what you're saying, but this idea doesn't take into account the human element. Players improve drastically and become stars or superstars. Some fall off quickly.

This idea would only work in 2k.

Maybe. But I ask the question: What do we do about what's happening in the NBA right now? Do we just let it happen and hope that no one learns from it and does it again..?

Just move to two things:

1) Get rid of max contracts
2) Hard cap

The end.

this is the first time in NBA history where only a few teams had a chance at a title
