What outside shooting do they really have with AA gone?
Doron Lamb & Willie Green are the only shooters they have, that I can think of

Funny looking at that now. Lester Earl was so far off the mark on McRoberts then.

Just when you think Orlando is doing a decent job at rebuilding....BAM, 8 mill a year to Channing Frye
I still think paying Ben Gordon to come in is an even worse idea.
Gordon's been trash since leaving Chicago and both Detroit and Charlotte paid a lot to have him just go away.

I agree that its an overpaid contract. But most FAs are. Hell, the average NBA players salary per year is $5.15m a year. Thats pretty ridiculous.
Frye's $8m a year puts him in the same ballpark as guys like Carl Landry, Taj Gibson, Ryan Anderson, Jeff Green, and less than guys like Bargnani, Favors, Boozer, etc. Some of those guys are better than Frye and deserve more $$$ than him, but some guys also deserve much less than him.
I actually dont mind Frye. Hes a 6'11 stretch 4 that can shoot the 3. Hes a mismatch type of player. And you gotta think how he will fit in with this Magic team. Payton and Oladipo can get to the rim at will, Aaron Gordon is a young PF that is extremely athletic and can run with those guys in transition and looks like hes a SF/PF tweener, Mo Harkless looked promising as a rookie but had some issues getting PT this past year, Tobias Harris is a tweener as well but is more of a midrange guy than a 3pt shooter but can knock down the 3 occasionally, and then you have the "glue" to the Magic in Vucevic who is a double double machine and a very good post player. IMO, hes 1 of the best young post players in the NBA. Hes got great size, excellent moves and touch, and is a solid athlete. Add in Channing Frye off the bench to be the 3pt shooting stretch 4 at 6'11, and thats not a bad roster move to sign him. Especially considering they desperately need 3pt shooters. And Frye is a great professional and the Magic are a very young team and need a veteran leader in that locker room like Frye. He will help the team more than just on the stat-sheet. Overpaid? Yes. But its not as bad as some of the signings we have seen so far in FA.
Oh and dont forget about Evan Fournier, the Magic acquired him from the Nuggets in that trade for Afflalo. Hes just 21years old and is a 6'6 SG. Hes been in the league for just 2 years and his 3pt% have been 40.7% and 37.6%, career % of 38.1% in his first 2 years. He can shoot the 3.

I think they have a nice collection of young talent and Vucevic is a fringe stud. I like Dipo and Harkless. The thing I don't get is why spend that money on Frye to help you win games when you just dumped Afflalo for less than his value?

yea it reminds me of when the Hornets signed James Posey

His per 36 #s aren't too far off from Ryan Anderson's, who makes $8m per.
Obviously Anderson is the better player, but Frye is still a lengthy body who can stroke and even play some 5.

Yeah that was pretty sweet. He had 12/9/8 today but he did still have 4 turnovers. Needs to cut that out.
