Can the Lakers not go over the Salary cap like the Warriors and just pay the luxury tax?
That’s not how it works.

There are basically 3 different levels a team’s roster can be at:

Below the salary cap
Above the cap (but below the luxury tax)
Over the luxury tax.

Each year the salary cap and luxury are set by the league. To make it simple, let’s say the salary cap is set at $100 million and the luxury tax is set at $130 million.

How it works is you cannot sign free agents to go over the salary cap.

So if your roster is at $90 million, you can’t sign LeBron for $30 million and go $20 million over the cap. You only have $10 million to spend.

You are allowed to go over the cap to re-sign your own players. So for example, if your roster is at $90 million and one of your own guys is a free agent, you don’t have to be afraid of losing him because you can only spend $10 million on him. You are allowed to go over the cap to sign him. So you can pay him $20 million and be $10 million over the cap.

Trades can also make your number over the cap go up.

You can do this all the way until you reach $130 million. Anything over that number and you have to pay heavy taxes on each dollar spent over the luxury tax. And the taxes get worse each year you are over the luxury tax.

So you can’t just choose to go over the cap and pay tax.

Milwaukee guard George Hill will be waived and become a free agent, league sources tell @The Athletic @Stadium. Hill had a terrific finish to the season and will be a sought-after combo guard on the market. Bucks are working to find space to re-sign Hill, too.

you can lose to a team that’s better than you and it still be a choke job when you should have won the series multiple times.

WBB, you disappear for 2 weeks every year when it comes time to pay your debts.

You expect people to seek you out when it comes time to collect instead of reaching out to settle your debts like a man

You think other people not paying you means you shouldn’t have to pay out your debts

And now you have the audacity to say people need to pay you upfront for a bet?

Remember, there’s a reason you are WBB. Welching Bitch Boom.

GSW has injuries and beats Houston...GSW has injuries and loses to Cavs. Excuses are different from Boom each time "That's a GSW team who woulda won only 50"

Not fair to compare the team Houston had to face v the one that Cleveland or Toronto faced. Gsw was almost as banged up as they were this year whenever they played CLE. In order of most banged up to least it is:

V TOR this year
V CLE when cle won

Big gap

V CC This year

V cc last year

If the Lakers do sign a max guy, they sound like they're gonna be screwed filling out the rest of the roster for anything more than pennies

Sources. Kawhi Leonard’s people plan on meeting with Lakers president Jeanie Buss and Magic Johnson next week when free agency starts. Will most likely be in LA

Bringing in the closer for this one
