To be honest I’m not sure how the Knicks lost bc Brunson/Anunoby/Hart/Towns all had pretty good games.
Brunson and Towns did not have good games and those are their two best players.

Brunson had statistically his best game of the finals and hit multiple timely shots, he definitely had a good game

He had 5 turnovers and it easily could have been more. Worst +/- of all the Knicks starters.
He played fine, not great. The Knicks didn't play well as a team.

The first 2 games he had 4 turnovers and was 2nd worst and worst in +\- respectively, while also shooting a lower percentage, scoring less, making less 3s, and having similar or worse assist/rebound numbers. I guess there is an argument to be made that he hasn’t played well the entire finals, but against the spurs defense I think he’s been pretty good and has just been forced to take on higher than ideal usage. And if the argument is that he’s been bad the whole time, then after 3 games it may have something to do with the defense he’s up against

Won games 4 and 5 in MSG to clinch SA's first title. Spurs won 19 more NBA Finals games in other venues since then, of course, but last night was SA's first NBA Finals game back at MSG since hoisting a Larry there.

Spurs are making him work crazy hard to hit high difficulty shots. Brunson is a dog and definitely can/has, but SA's goal seems to be to make him as inefficient as possible.

This is their biggest problem. In addition to more turnovers as a team, they are having a ton of late-shot clock possessions where the offense is stagnant and one player ends up having to isolate. Too many frantic passes. They honestly should have had more turnovers than they did.
It for sure has a lot to do with the defense they are up against. The Spurs have increased their points off turnovers in each game of the series. The Knicks have to get KAT more touches and get into offense a little quicker. If they don't make some adjustments, I think Game 4 will go a lot like Game 3.

Agreed, I think he’s been good personally. Spurs defense just does this to players (see: NBA MVP last round). Ultimately why I do think the spurs still win the series, and why it was crazy to me seeing so many people dancing on their grave as if the series was over after 2 close losses.

What a great year

Brunson is only going to be able to do so much. The Spurs guards are making him work for everything.
I feel KAT is the one that has to step up.
These teams are very evenly matched. Both are great on defense and just mudding up player movement on offense

Bingo. Once SA matched OKC's physicality, SGA had to play straight up (which he mostly did in games 6 and 7, to his credit--he was fantastic). But his efficiency tanked.

IF the Spurs pull off a comeback, it'll almost assuredly be because of their defense. Vic's offense will be ballyhooed, but the 1st, 3rd, & 4th quarters last night were a defensive masterclass. Knicks' best counter is feeding KAT the ball more instead of Brunson taking so many tough shots. OG/Shamet/Hart can be significant X-factors if they go on heaters (OG's magnet ball last night kept nYk afloat in key moments).

Narratives aside, it really is basketball chess right now

I believe if the Knicks win this series, it will be because of KAT and he will be named MVP.
