2001 Miami benefits from more retroactive hype than any team ever. They almost lost to BC and didn't really turn it on until the end of the year.

2002 Miami had just as much NFL talent in their starting lineup and they lost to OSU.

"just as much" minus a HOFer and a few All-Pros.

More hall of famers and all pros stepped in their place.

Yes?

Sean Taylor, Antrel Rolle, McGahee, Winslow Jr. weren't major contributors until 2002. Not to mention all the 2001 starters/contributors that were a year older.

At the end of the season, I would have taken LSU.

Don't think Miami could have stopped Rohan.

Ed Reed was among the best players in CFB in 2001 and eventually a HOFer. He scored that TD in the BC game. Taylor was what, a freshman in 2002? Portis, McKinnie and Shockey were Pro Bowlers. Rumph and Buchanon were also very good college players.

No doubt both teams were exceptionally talented, but no doubt as to which team was better.

Look at the NFL talent on that 2002 Ohio State team. It was loaded especially on defense.

The way the LSU offense played starting with the Bama game that year, yes. They knocked off a pretty good Tennessee team in the SeC-c without Rohan.

Not saying they would beat Miami, but they were very capable of doing so

Either 2011 Bama or LSU..........

Those two defenses we're champions and could shut down teams. It's a shame both defenses played during the same season, to tell ya the truth.

you do realize that no one considered the 2001 Hurricanes the best team ever until they started having so many players drafted. They had close games with unranked Boston College and VA tech.

I love how this thread is about Miami, but the Auburn fans are comparing 04 auburn vs SC Let it go fellas. I'm sure you would've squashed us just like you did the previous 2 years.

So an unranked Boston College and VA tech can come close to beating them but the best lsu and Bama team of all time couldn't beat them?
2001 Miami was considered an all time team until after all their players were drafted

Exactly. Every time these threads are started I ask if anyone can find me one, just one article saying this was the GOAT back then. It's only because so many of them had great NFL careers that the aura of that team began to grow. I love when people mention guys like Winslow, Taylor, Rolle etc, All those guys redshirted that year.

That 2001 Miami team beat ranked opponents (Washington, Syracuse) in consecutive weeks by a combined score of 124-7. That hasn't been done before or since. They absolutely steamrolled Nebraska and could have easily scored 50+ in that game if they wanted to.

I would have liked to see them against 2013 Florida State to be honest.

This is actually false. After the Syracuse and Washington games there was talk of Miami potentially being one of the goats. As the above poster mentioned, no team had ever slaughtered ranked teams in back to back weeks like Miami did.
