I'm not worried about it. I've owed him $900 since football season, and I havent heard a word about it. If someone knocks on my door, then I'll cut them a check. I've got the cash, but I'm not going out of my way to give it to this guy. Most of my friends are up or down in the 5k range, so I figured he go after them first.

Ok, stay safe. Oh and don't write a check. Just cash. You don't want any more records of you paying the guy.

The best year I've ever had my bookie got busted. A couple weeks left in the NFL playoffs and I was up $2,300. Dude got busted for steroids, coke, horse tranquilizer, disco bicuits, and a dozen or so other narcotics. I don't think they even bothered with the sports book charge..

I remember this well. I owed him a bit that week myself.

It's a states rights issue

It's illegal by federal law. Vegas is grandfathered in.

A state could technically start allowing sports betting but the Feds could bust it up any time they want. See medical marijuana.

Dude,

He can easily collect your debt. He asks one of his associates to collect for him. Money is money to these guys. Don't think for a second that any money he is owed is insignificant. In fact 900 is the right amount for him to collect.

In fact it's actually easier to collect form you. His associate goes to you and you figure it's easier paying 900.00 than the alternative.

you bet.

I would give him $1,000 and explain you didnt know how to pay it, once Uncle was in the slammer.

Thanks, I realized after that I was confused on the law. But the other points still hold water when dealing black market vs open market operations.

Last I heard a few months ago, he was still in the clink. That was a terrible way to spend 8 prime years of one's life. He had plenty of money as it was, but got greedy as hell. I remember the phone call from the chap taking his calls....

"If you owe us money, Merry fricking Christmas. If we owe you money, get fricked."

Same thing with me with the same guy.

I was the only one in my group that was getting paid that week. I was up big. His helper basically said "If you owe us, Merry Christmas. If we owe you, too fricking bad."

I pulled up to the helpers house with grand illusions of gettin my $2,300 or beating $2,300 out of his arse. He comes out on the porch screaming "do you think the cops are not watching you right now?" "do you know know what you're about to get into?". I weighed my options and eased on off into the sunset.

My little skinney buddy got stiffed 5k

I remember the bookie who used to manage to old Happy Note on the current site or BRCC.

..on the phone..

(calculating a guy's losses in one football weekend)

quote:

Bookie: I have here that you owe me $10,000
..guy responds..
Bookie: What? You don't fricking have it? Then why in the frick are you betting with me? You need to get your arse down here so we can talk.

I knew there wasn't much I could do. I almost had to take back some Christmas presents I had bought that year.
