The Mannings, LeBron, Richard Sherman, et al are the latest in the Polymarket gambling ad.

Don’t give a frick how many downvotes I get. When you prey upon the weak, you’ve sold your soul out for profit.

Bill Hicks had the best standup bit on this..
Bill Hicks on commercials in general

Same goes for Barstool Sports figureheads whose audience has the emotional maturity of a marshmallow.

You do a gambling commercial-you’re a sellout, piece of shite, scumbag, whore to the evil that’s in this world.

It would be one thing if this was in its own corner and I had to actively seek it out, but I cant watch a gd YouTube vid without seeing an ad for prizepicks or whatever

And thats before we get into the ethics and morality of it all

From a broader view, the real thing that irks me is how much mainstream accounts and media have made betting lines and “prediction markets” as if they are real things that have any sort of gauge of what will happen in the future

For example “Polymarket now says there is an 80 percent chance of (insert political event or election) will happen”

And actual media figures will react to it like

Like bro it’s a made up figure built to scam people or be rigged by people with inside information.

This is why Michael Jordan is GOAT. MJ would have never been involved with gambling during his era!

You have many products that were made by child labor and extremely poor people who have no choice but to work in factories.

No one’s forcing you to gamble.

You know there's no such thing as a soul right?

"Sold your soul" is a figure of speech that everyone understands. What a stupid remark

Ferris Bueller trying to con old ladies into blowing their retirement savings on phone gambling has to be a low point for him.

This isn’t the first time you’ve brought this up. My sober date is 6/12/24. I am active in my recovery. And grateful for the blessings sobriety has given me.

Good for you. Happy for you. I personally just wouldn’t take the moral high ground on some people taking money for hawking commercials when you were stealing from people you knew not very long ago

Saw a post on X talking about the finances of houses who have someone who gambles in them.

For every dollar spent gambling the average return is 75 cents.

Households who don't gamble have something like 75% more money than households who don't.

I haven't even been posting here long and already noticed that you really seem to put yourself on a pedestal with an alarming amount of regularity on multiple issues.

Maybe we should all come to you for advice like some kind of message board Oracle.

I was using my savings, RSUs, and retirement to fuel my addiction. Your assumptions are confidently wrong and have nothing to do with the topic, other than trying to make yourself feel superior on an anonymous, Louisiana based message board.

Do you like ads shoved in your face all day every day? Nobody's forcing you to buy anything either, it's just annoying AF & people complain about what they don't like.

Hence the thread topic

I would say every college football pod I listen to is sponsored by fanduel. Then they have to do the 3x speed drop of the guy going over the terms and conditions. It’s really annoying.
