Tim Duncan does not belong in this thread.... he was a brilliant player and is top 15-20 all time.

See, I feel like that proves my point. I feel like he is a no brainer top ten alltimer, and he's only cited as a top 15-20 guy.
If you rank the best at every position in NBA history, you get Magic, MJ, LeBron, Timmy and Kareem. I just don't think he gets the kind of appreciation that should come with bwing clearly the best PF in league history.

his turn-around midrange jumper was HORSE material for us 12 year olds.
10 time first team.
the definition of elite all time.

Michael Redd. Left-handed Ray Allen (worked like hell to get the jumper that good) with better slashing. Played on shite teams in a small market and got derailed by injuries, but was a hell of a scorer.

s easily the best PF in NBA history,
Didn't he play center half his career?
He's easily the best PF in a universe that never saw Charles Barkley or Karl Malone, I suppose.

Played for the Nets, Blazers and Nuggets (all in the NBA).

See, right here is why I think he's underappreciated. Duncan is clearly better than Barkley or Malone, but you'll get people ranking them over him.

Monster mash. Jamal mashburn. In a different setting he couldve been a hall of famer. Averaged nearly 20, 5, 4 in his career. Also retired at 32.
I remember when he dropped 50+ on Memphis

He 'may' be better, but 'clearly better', he is not.

Duncan has 5 rings to 0 combined rings by Barkley and Malone. He was very significantly better on D than either Barkley or Malone.
Career PER's are basically the same for all 3, so I think you can say similar offensive impact. Duncan is one of the few players to match Malone's impressive longevity, and that's an area Barkley falls behind.
I think it's fairly clear. Duncan separates from Malone with D and championships. Duncan separates from Barkley with D, championships and longevity. Malone separates from Barkley with longevity.

I think the only power forward with a legitimate case for being better than Duncan is Garnett. KG would have been considered a unanimous top 10 player of all-time if he didn't have the misfortune of having the worst supporting cast of any superstar in the history of the NBA.

I would say Wilt Chamberlain.
It's not that Chamberlain isn't recognized as a great player. But I think as time goes on people forget just how absolutely dominant he was as a player. In his prime (9 years or so) he AVERAGED nearly 39 points per game and 22 rebounds per game, while playing damn near every minute of every game and rarely missing any games. The NBA changed rules because of him. In 61-62 he AVERAGED 50 points per game and played all but 6 minutes for the entire season. He averaged 48.5 minutes per game once the minutes for overtime games were added. HE AVERAGED MORE MINUTES PER GAME THAN THERE ARE IN REGULATION!
He may have, individually, been the most dominant single player to ever play a team sport. Yet, his name doesn't seem to get brought up all that often when there is discussion about the best basketball players of all time. That's why I'd say he is "underappreciated"
