Given that the violations occurred in the late 90s, and OSU implemented its own penalty, the NCAA will likely not look at it as a repeat violation.
quote:
An institution shall be considered a "repeat violator" if the Committee on Infractions finds that a major violation has occurred within five years of the starting date of a major penalty.
No telling with the NCAA. One thing I learned the last decade is, you will not know what to expect. They broke their own bylaws in hammering Bama and used a self reported secondary basketball violation that was 2 yrs probation to label them as a repeat violator.

The whole tattoo/selling memorabilia and subsequent cover-up isn't a big enough violation for you?

From the guy who was in complete denial on the earlier issue.
Unfortunately, some of us have a functioning brain and are using it.

fwiw, from what I've read about the cars it will be a non-issue.
But that doesn't mean they won't find anything elsewhere. We're fricked right now imo. They will find more things once they start digging.

10tv news report:
In one case, The Columbus Dispatch reported that former football player Thaddeus Gibson received a car from Jack Maxton Chevrolet that records showed he paid $0.
Aaron Kniffin, the salesman who made the deal, told 10 Investigates that Gibson did nothing wrong and the paperwork showed $0 because the deal involved a refinance situation.
"He refinanced his loan. He didn't pay zero for it," Kniffin said. "He still owns the car. He has a loan on it through a major bank."

When the Reggie Bush story broke, USC fans were insisting his parents had paid monthly rent for THE HOUSE. I was banned from the USC Rivals site for asking why they just haven't produced a rent check that had cleared the bank.........I also called Reggie Bush a mother****er.
Still, Reggie is exponentially more honest than Tressel or TP.

The only reason a red flag was raised in this case was because the selling price was $0.
I'm sure Gibson has proof of the loan. This is a non-issue. All car deals for players go through the OSU Compliance Office now and are one major area that is very hard to get a benefit as a player. I would highly doubt they find anything car related at all.

ie they call and compliance office relies on the good name and word of the used car salesman... why does this not give me a warm and fuzzy
Do family members go through review too? No good deals on cars for TP's family in Penn... they needed to go to Ohio to get that? 50 sales to one salesman because he is just so charming? Cmon man.

I'm sure they were getting a discount, but the car wasn't free.
I was just giving my opinion, I haven't seen the invoices of the deals and neither have you. I think Jack Maxton owns a buy here/pay here lot, so it's possible pryor's fam couldn't get financed and they bit the bullet and agreed to give them the financing. Who knows, but it's obvious they were getting a benefit, I just don't think it was substantial enough to raise a red flag in the compliance office.
Who knows.

Discount is all that is needed.

No I havent but I am not nieve (and neither are you). As with most things in life, we dont have 'source documents'; we have circumstantial facts and common sense.

Here is the thing.. you have cited two types of violations in providing basically 'best case' scenarios (atleast in the realm of being realistic).
Sounds like another benefit.

This is a little confusing... he 'refinanced' an existing loan at a car dealership with a car salesman?

pretty sure this has already been cleared but who knows.
people are just itching to find the next thing to take us down and if they look hard enough i'm sure they'll find it

It would be hard to prove intent unless there is a glaring benefit, I guess that was my only point.
There was a reason these players went to the same guy obviously.
Another thing to consider is that this is a business and I highly doubt a car salesman has the pull to set up deals that the dealership loses money on. Deals have to get approved by Sales Managers, the owner, etc.
Again, who knows. I guess we'll find out soon enough.
