re: More impressive MJs two 3 peats or LBJs possible one?

First of all, LBJ doesn't even have a 3 peat. This shite reminds me of all the talk of Brady's 4th ring, Kobe's 2nd 3 peat and how 2 rings made Peyton the all time best (twice we've had that talk). I hate this assumption talk and comparing it to the all timers. If the heat win again, we'll have plenty of time to debate it.
Secondly, as a staunch LBJ supporter, this is a ridiculous notion bc 2>1 and any and all lebron homers know it
Thirdly, today's basketball is very comparable to 30 years ago. It's different, but it's largely the same. The athletes are bigger, faster, stronger, but are across the board. The defenses are more sophisticated, but are across the board, and it's less physical is terms of what you can do defensively, but it's the same at both ends of the floor. There's always only about 6 teams that can win it all, 6 teams that are freaking awful, and a bunch of teams in the middle that will win or lose depending on things like injuries, lucky bounces, coaching, and ownership.
Watching Hibbert last night being toyed with as lebron would run a pick and roll with a stretch 4 makes you think how much the game has changed(evolved?). I'm not sure Hakeem, shaq, or bill Russell could stop LBJ going to rim and close on bosh/rashard Lewis shooting from the outside. It's just an incredibly tough situation for any big

I still think that SA will beat Miami this year, thus making this thread a moot point.

Let's not even put the Rockets on the Bulls level.
I wasn't saying any of those franchises are equals... just that multiple championships were won by 2 franchises in each decade.

Yes, it is. I totally debate it. We didn't evolve as a species in two decades. That's an absurd proposition (though drugs got better, and more easily hidden). The overall human is the same. It's just massive ego stroking that makes us think that we've somehow crossed this Rubicon.
Yes, there is a huge difference between now and the 60s, when athletes couldn't really devote all of their time to sport for economic reasons, and besides, most of the world was still digging out from a world war and the resulting effects on nutrition and the like. Equipment has gotten much better, but humans? No. We're pretty much the same as we were a generation ago.
But MORE humans have access to BETTER training, nutrition, coaching, etc. today than even just 20 years ago.
Therefore not only are records more likely to be broken, but even the 10th place guy today is way better than the 10th place guy twenty years ago.
Which means, in general, better athletes are competing in sports today due to a higher quantity of high quality athletes. There is a larger pool of great athletes playing sports which makes it harder for those at the very top than it was in the past.

This is fine... I still think that the "96 Bulls [IN THEIR PRIME"] with the rules of THAT time would blow the Heat away... Its ALL about ATTITUDE.... These players nowadays are about MONEY... Bron Is a physical freak... The rest of the Heat are NOT... MJ was a BASKETBALL freak....... The Heat have NOBODY that could hang with Pippen...NOBODY.......... And IMO Pippen WOULD shut James down....

James would blow past Pippen. James would make him look like a parked yugo.

i'm not saying the human race has evolved, but sports performance certainly has...namely the science of building bodies
again, this is the 80s
bird, as a shooter, could still play today. mchale would get fricking destroyed
the 90s saw improvements, and in the late 90s you saw some legit strong men in the NBA...but the strategy/tactics was rudimentary
if you want to discuss a dark era of tactics and strategy in any sport, i present the late 90s NBA
i mean the 80s was basic, too, but ignoring defense is always more fun to watch than ignoring offense

As awful as the east is right now I believe when it's all said and done Lebrons titles won't be as impressive as Jordan's. They are basically a shoe in for the finals right now. The east is awful.

Jordan was making $30M+ per year during that 2nd run. That's 50% more than what LbJ is making

the East was so strong during Jordan's run, a team from the east didn't win a title until 2004, 5 years later

Well maybe. WITH todays rules... You [AGAIN were just a pup] Maybe when these guys played... If KM could play today with THOSE rules??? He would be unstoppable...
SERIOUS... SFP/// You really have ZERO idea what the NBA is/has been about do you????
Posted on 5/31/14 at 4:14 pm to dukke v
The NBA sucked rules-wise until the 2000's. The elimination of illegal defense and the creation of the defensive 3 seconds rule helped the sport evolve and allowed more complex defensive and offensive schemes.

You were not even born to watch the 80's and 90's.. SO SHUT UP...BTW do you think Elgin Baylor was a good player????

It was MUCH MUCH stronger than it is now.....

MJ made like 4 million the first year of the 2nd 3peat. 30 the next two
Born has probably already made a greater NBA salary than Jordan did his whole career
