The ump must have assumed that with all of the contact there must have been a tag. He wasn't tagged, but he was so clearly out had he been tagged that it was a "neighborhood" play. The "neighborhood" is getting bigger, but I would never have sent him.

We know you're brilliant, and we can't wait to read your posts. How about looking at the thread before you drop some wisdom on us. In the first 3 posts they have a picture that completely ENDS all argument related to this.

That's a good pic. Is that from tonight's game? I saw the replay on video and he looked safe. He looks out in that pic. Where'd you get that?

Watching the replay, I don't see how the ump could call him safe. Is there another angle from above showing no contact with the glove?

Look at the first page of this thread, theres an image showing clear contact with the glove.

All of this debate on the tag... not one mention of how beautiful of a play that was by Beltran. That video is a perfect example of the outfielder setting up to make a throw and executing it perfectly.

And, Ellis' elbow did hit the wrist band of the catcher's mitt. Not easy to see with the angle of video, but a tag was made.

Not reading all of the threads on this, but in my understanding, when the runner goes for the "plow through the catcher" play, as long as the catcher hangs on to the ball and isn't facing the complete opposite direction, he's going to be called out.

This is pretty much it. Same with a double play at 2nd. Doesn't have to actually touch the base or the runner. Ball beats you and you're out. If Ellis slides head first trying to avoid contact, the ump will look for actual glove contact. In a collision he doesn't care.

If Dodgers are having problems beating a team they spent 100mil more than. 216mil to 116mil

Could spending 300mil get them that extra run? Or another game?
