Guards, Cards, Jays and Mets

In a best of 3, maybe it's foolish to go all chalk. An upset may happen. In order of confidence highest to lowest

1. Guardians over Rays
2. Mets over Padres
3. Cards over Phillies
4. Blue Jays over Mariners

baseball does nothing but decide to do the dumbest shite at every turn. i have no idea why they lock themselves into permanent seeds as opposed to simply just reseeding at every round

It's really not that big of a deal, stop being afraid of the fricking Mets.

ive been saying this for years completely independent on whether or not the dodgers are impacted. the way baseball seeds its teams is stupid and the way they apply those seeds in the playoffs is worse

Bottom line is that MLB and Fox are dying for a dodgers/Yankees WS. The yanks don’t really deserve it but I gotta gut feeling somehow the will manage to get there.

Huh?

You wanted them to reseed two teams after the LDS?

If anything, once the wild card game started, you got more true outcomes of 1v4 and 2v3. Before. the LDS wouldn't always be that way if the #1 and #4 came from the same division.

I like that they don't reseed the wild card after the opening round, puts more emphasis on winning your division.

the best wild card team is usually better than the worst division winner

LINK /

the format of just giving the best team in the league the "lower seed" aka the wild card usually forces the best team to play a better opponent than the 2nd best team

and the new format also strips the advantage that team gets by also giving the 2nd best team the ability to play a team who had to waste its pitching staff to get through the wild card round

Again, if we're going to make a mockery of a long arse regular season by expanding the postseason, then there has to be some carrot for winning the division. Reseeding would mean that the Mets get a better path than the Cardinals despite not winning the division... that's stupid. Win your division, scrub.

I still think it was dumb to add a second wild card team immediately after having one of the best final days in baseball history. MLB quickly nuked that from ever happening again. Moving to 3 wild card teams and MLB is trying its damndest to make the last week of the season meaningless.

the mets were better than the cards. they should have an easier path

They should've won their division.

If you want to get rid of divisions and just take the best 6 teams fine, but if there are divisions where the majority of your games are against division opponents (which does change next year), then there should be a reward for winning the division that the wild card doesn't get.
