Really wouldn't be that different. Just a couple of changes in scenery. You're making a much bigger deal out of it than it actually is.

I guess in the sense that literally none of this matters and each individual series is a literal coinflip regarldess of circumstance
But i guess the overal point is that baseball should try to give its better teams an easier path. Not a more difficult one

But even then, record isn't the biggest decider of that.
Case and point, even without the hindsight of winning a World Series, the Braves heading into the postseason were clearly a better team than the Brewers, but they still had to go to Milwaukee to open the NLDS.
No matter the format, it's never going to be a fool-proof method.

Yeah, but why should the Dodgers get special treatment when they couldn't pass up the Giants?
Win your division, scrub.

Seems like it would be protecting the Giants who were the #1 seed

But why do the Dodgers deserve protection for not winning their division and getting to play a weaker team?
You can argue it both ways.

Why should we punish the team who did win their division by forcing them to play the clearly better team as opposed to giving them an easier path?

...because if we have divisions, there should be some importance in winning them.

So then why did we punish the team who won that division by making them play the clearly better team between the dodgers and brewers?

We're just going in circles here.

I mean, am I wrong? Were the Giants not punished last year into playing a clearly better team due to arbitrary seeding?

I think that’s the direction the sport goes after expansion. Nashville and Portland get teams, and the AL and NL basically become the eastern and western leagues

Sure, but in your scenario the Dodgers (or whoever the wild card is) would benefit, so it's not exactly "fair" either way.

So in this case, last season would've been Dodgers hosting the Brewers in the NLDS, right?
Why should a team that didn't win their division get to host a team that did win their division.
And if you say it's because they won more games, fine, but that's no different than me saying "well on the flipside, they won their division".

Going to be tough to stop that Phillies 1-2 rotation in a 3 game series.
