Where is Verdugo going to play? Chris Taylor is killing it and Logan Forsythe has really heated up. Who is getting benched, or will he have a platoon or bench role?

Again, trading one elite prospect will not destroy the farm. The Dodgers will have short-term and long-term success with or without Verdugo or Buehler. One mortgage towards October will be fine. That is my point.

Also, what if you miss out if players leave their prime? Kershaw has a lot of innings and now the back issue is back, Hill is very old (but does throw curves), Turner is old and has an injury history, etc. There is never a guarantee that these current production levels can be replicated.

I'm with you on not wanting to give up elite prospects who would help the club soon.

I think most Astros fans would agree with me in saying that the only way I trade Kyle Tucker would be for an ace with many years of control (deGrom has been the most mentioned name over the last month or 2 although that's obviously not happening...just giving an example of type of pitcher)

I know LA and Houston are a little different in terms of budget...but I view this as year 1 of 4-5 at the minimum where we have a realistic chance to make a deep postseason run. I would hate to give away a guy who should help tremendously in that window just for a rental

But I also totally understand the other side of the argument. Especially if it's a glaring need and the prospect is coming from a position of surplus (Cubs giving up Torres for Aroldis while they have Addison Russell)

he will most likely take forsythe's spot. he'll go in the outfield and taylor will return to the infield. just my guess

while i dont disagree that trading away buehler or verdugo doesnt destroy the future of the team going forward, my point is that we dont need to trade away the most valuable assets in baseball, young and cost controlled talent that is major league ready

and this is where holding onto cost controlled young talent comes in. it makes you much more flexible if shite comes up. they either come in and takeover, or they give you the salary room to make a move

Verdugo shouldn't be untouchable. Fringe power

and he isnt in a vacuum. when he is about to provide major league value, that changes things

if he, or buehler, were in high A like torres was when the cubs traded him, id have a different opinion

He isn't needed though. And it's not like he is kris Bryant or Corey Seager or Carlos Correa. The dodgers have 5 OF better than him

chris taylor can play anywhere on the field, the jury is still out on toles who is out for the year

right now the only for sure players who are outfield locks are puig and joc. he'll play in the outfield and taylor will take forsythe's spot in the infield until agon comes back. then bellinger gets moved to left and verdugo gets platooned for the rest of the year

The Red Sox and Diamondbacks are among the teams with interest in Twinsrighty Brandon Kintzler, per Jon Morosi of MLB.com (via Twitter).

While the Astros continue their search for arms, the club has done some “background work” on Twins righty Ervin Santana, per Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer-Press (Twitter links).

quote:

The Dodgers are also looking at starters, of course, and Morosi hears they are (Twitterlinks) increasingly confident in landing a big name. Currently, Los Angeles is focused more on Rangers star Yu Darvish than either Sonny Gray of the Athletics or Justin Verlander of the Tigers, he notes.

quote:

The Cubs are the most interested team in Verlander, tweets USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, but suggests that the Tigersstar’s contract may simply be too great an obstacle to overcome. CBS Chicago’s Bruce Levine hears similarly, tweeting that there’s “no traction” between the Cubs and Tigers at this point,

Benching Forsythe would be lunacy. Go look at his July.

You know how versatile and valuable he can be. Friedman went out and got him from his former club. Anyone can see his value, but Friedman still really liked him with having the max amount of info. His on base skills

I get the concept of holding cost controlled talent. But shite, you can't replace Kershaw. Your window is partially defined by the greatest pitcher of this generation.

he head a decent first week of the month, since our last series before the break?

hes 227/345/273 .045 ISO and 76 wRC+

i absolutely appreciate how he gets on base, but he doesnt get the quality of contact to justify playing everyday

if we were looking to replace kershaw, my opinion would change. and i would hope we would be looking a bit higher if we were hoping to replace kershaw long term

Personally I think trading for Yu would mean they would resign him in the off-season. They have some money coming off in Gonzales correct?

Sure they could get the Rangers to take back some money. Especially if it means giving up a better prospect in return.

That's not my point. Your window is partially defined by Kershaw being god. You don't know when that opportunity ends.

and by holding onto high level, major league ready, prospects, we he have the flexibility and assets to make a trade or sign a player like kershaw if his back ends up exploding. that isnt what we are facing right now. if it was, i would have a totally different opinion

my comment wasnt for all of july, just after like the first week

he did have a strong first week of july, but it was a two series run propped up mostly on a crazy series against the padres

@Ken_Rosenthal
Sources: #Rangers confident they will get quality trade for Darvish. Informing clubs they will move him, actively exchanging names.
