It's about time to start tossing McCann's name out there to see what the return is. He's played very well this season, and I could understand wanting to hold on to him for our World Series run. However, we need to strengthen our bullpen and rotation and if he has to go to do so, then I think we need to pull the trigger.
You are a fricking idiot.

Nah, we backed off that.
Unless Mo was full of shite.
We're the only team even still left that is in on Peavy as others have eliminated ATL, Oakland, and Boston now.
So I don't frickng know.

They wanted Addison Russell, Sonny Gray, and eat Peavy's contract? Screw that

Yeah, like I said, the White Sox front office is equal to the Raiders a few years ago.
They're going to end up stuck with Peavy.

Martinez was pulled from his start in the 5th inning.
I hope that was just because he was at 75 pitches and they kept it low since he hadn't started in awhile while up with STL in bullpen.
5 innings 3 hits no runs 7 K's.
Could also mean trade looming. I hope not.

Thank you for the well thought out and informative post. I'm glad that you feel that way and I could honestly care less. I still believe that the Braves need to bring in another starter, and we don't have much in the system to really go out and grab someone. Therefore, McCann would be my next choice. Simply because he is playing at a respectable level at the moment, and his trade value is pretty good right now. I would give the Braves a 0%-5% chance of re-signing McCann, so why not try and get something in return while we still can? Let's here your reason as to why I am a "fricking idiot". This should be entertaining

No, you are a fricking idiot for wanting to trade our second best bat during a pennant chase

They get a pick.

I get that, but I am just not comfortable with our pitching staff heading into the post season. I don't know if we have the pieces outside of a player already on our MLB roster that could net us a serviceable starter.

Who out there would make you feel comfortable?
Posted on 7/29/13 at 9:16 am to SwampDonks
There is no starting pitching out there. I don't get it.

Well, I would say Peavy but they want too much in return for him. Ervin Santana could be a good fit and we've done deals with KC in the past. Not sure on what the asking price would be or how healthy he is. Aside from McCann, who else is there on our roster that could get us an arm for the bullpen or rotation?

Bud Norris/Veras of course McCann doesn't fit what Astros want, or Phillies with Lee, or White Sox with Peavy so it makes trading McCann pointless.

I believe I read that Santana was not likely to be dealt. But on our active roster, probably nobody that the Braves would be willing to part with.
Any trade that we make will be involved around prospects.

Veras has been traded to Detroit for Danry Vasquez and ptbnl.

There is no pitcher available that would be a big enough upgrade to make up for the loss of McCann's production.

Gattis would get a return
Not falling on the double sided sword.

If I say "he's the future" you will come back with "based on what?".
If I say "he would get a return based on what?" You would fire back with "which is exactly why we need to keep McCann".

The aggressive Orioles are "even willing to move" top prospect Dylan Bundy "for the right return," sources tell Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports. Perhaps any player can be moved for the right return, but Rosenthal's report implies the Orioles are more willing to listen on Bundy than teams usually are on top prospects.
