Great deal for the cubs. Don't give up anything that matters and land 105mph heat to fill one of the few weaknesses of the team. Great move.

He's having a so-so year with not very much power in AA. I'll allow it as well.

All I know is that if I were a lefty batter, I'd poo on myself facing Chapman. I'd go full John Kruk.

I'm fine with that. Corner OF with good bat but no power. Zagunis has passed him by as that fourth of type.

consider that Ian Happ will likely play OF too

plus Donnie Dewees is a McKinney clone, who was our 2nd Rd pick last year

Lester what will the melt be if the Cubs blow this trade?

I do not think they will, but the curse is real and this would add to it.

And that Cuban Eddy Martinez has been mashing lately.

blow the trade in what manner?

i mean it doesn't make them a lock to win a world series. No one player can really do that. But it definitely solidifies the bullpen. This would likely be the best bullpen guy the Cubs have had since ive followed them.

The Montgomery deal is highly underrated. Add Chapman and you turn a weakness into a strength.

That it does not happen after all the hoopla that has surrounded it in this thread.

eh, there is some hesitation in giving up Torres for a rental so there wouldnt be a melt.

He could help net a legit 3rd starter or another piece if he is truly on the block. I dont think there would be a melt.

Along with Warren and Torres, hearing Billy McKinney and one other going to the Yankees.

I'd be pretty disappointed if we gave up those 3 without an agreed extension.

I'd think that package could land a starter with a couple years of control.

I think you could certainly argue that this is as big a package as what the Red Sox gave up for Pomeranz.

I wonder if the Cubs may be trying to get more out of this with that list of players, however, Torres is the centerpiece, Warren is an afterthought in the bullpen and McKinney has fallen off over the last year a good bit. There are better OF prospects. It's a lot to give up, and I get the SP angle, but someone like that would cost more than this I think.

Also, keep in mind what the Cubs are keeping in a trade like this. Schwarber, Baez, Soler, Happ, Cease, Jimenez all staying (hopefully).

The Cubs got offered Pomeranz for Baez and turned it down. They were trying to flip Pomeranz to someone else for a mystery cost controlled young starter.

Agreed. Chapman is a WS difference maker. You still keep everyone who matters. It's a win.

wonder how many we've lost when tied or better after the sixth or seventh

When tied or leading after 6, Cubs are 55-10.

after 7, 57-5

Any other permutation you'd like to see: LINK

As a Yankee fan, have to wonder if this accelerates a potential deal for Miller (Nats, Indians, others)
