I really hope they sign him, what would it take 40 million a year for say 6 years with an opt-out or do you think he would go the 10-year route like Stanton.

10 years 350-370

Manny just doesn't come across as the 10 year type to me, I would think he would wanna go into FA again before he is 35
Posted on 7/18/18 at 2:06 pm to tduecen
i think its reeeaaaallly hard to turn down that much money, even if it comes with a lower AAV

Truth, someone throwing that kind of money at you it is hard. However, if he does sign a shorter deal for more money a year then he can end up making more over the long term if he stays healthy and produces.
He just turned 26 (July 6) so a 5-year deal would bring him to 31 and then he could sign a 6-7 year deal after that. Or go 10 years and then have to sign 1-2 year deals at 36.

He could always get an opt-out clause like A-Rod did.

They've actually been right up about a lot of the medical stuff. They failed Aaron Sele's physical and he experienced shoulder problems a short time later. They failed Grant Balfour's physical and Balfour was out of the big leagues within a year. They nearly backed out of signing Yovani Gallardo's due to his medicals with his right shoulder. And guess what? Yovani Gallardo's velocity has completely tanked and he's been a below replacement level pitcher the last three seasons.

He and Bryce will have interesting contracts, wouldn't surprise me if they go 5/6 years or if they go 10-12 years on their deals
Posted on 7/18/18 at 2:14 pm to tduecen
bryce has already pretty much said hes only taking deals of at least 10 years
Posted on 7/18/18 at 2:18 pm to WestCoastAg
Was that before this season? Because no way he takes a deal at 10 years for less than 30 million a year which some teams may offer after his horrific season this year.
Bryce seems more focused on the home run after saying he didn't see a problem hitting .220 as long as he hits 40+ bombs a year.

I'd be surprised if they didn't go 10 year deals with player opt outs

ESPN just released an interview of him talking about him only going somewhere that he could see as a fit for the next 10 years
he may be opperating under the assumption that he is still getting over 30 million which i still think hes going to get

The opt-out clause was after seven years. Manny will be 33 in seven years. What would be the benefit of becoming a free agent at age 33? Giving these ten year contracts to thirty-something players never work out. It was a disaster with A-Rod, it's been a disaster with Pujols and it's on his way to being a disaster with Miguel Cabrera. You would think teams would start to learn their lesson by now.

10 years for both at 26 is fine, at 30+ it is laughable. Like I said, it would not surprise me to see either take a shorter term deal at 35-40 million a year to get a second shorter deal at a larger amount later. Although a long-term deal with security wouldn't surprise me either.

Get a big 5-6 year deal instead of sticking out the additional 3 and taking his chances at an age 36 contract.
Potentially.
Other contracts being signed by players of similar age would dictate whether or not it's worth it.

Hearing nothing today to indicate the Manny Machado trade is steaming toward the finish line. There's no reason to believe it won't happen by Friday. But when the #Orioles are involved, you never know what might bog things down near the end. That's their organizational M.O.
