13 years with no opt outs lolwut

Boras is fricking incredible at his job
Posted on 2/28/19 at 2:12 pm to ShaneTheLegLechler
Boras Finally fricks up. 13 years for less than Machado per year and no opt outs? What a shite result after that whole circus.

Are you fricking retarded? 13 years and 330 million fricking dollars and you think the agent fricked up?

No opt outs for 13 years and less per year than Machado and Arenado.

fricked up is too strong but I don’t think the deal is super favorable for Harper compared to what was being thrown around at the end of the season. He got a very similar deal to Stanton with no opt out. Hard for us to say without knowing everything that was on the table though. And if Harper truly wanted a contract that locked him into one team for the rest of his career (what Boras said today) then I guess they accomplished that.

Yeah I guess I struggle to laugh at or say someone fricked up when they are guaranteed to be making 25 million a year for the next 13 years. 330 million is a lot. He was never going to get 400.

Yeah and it’s tough to judge it without knowing what was really on the table and what Harper was looking for. That rumored LA deal supposedly was going to “shatter the AAV record” and was 5 years. If it were me I would have been all over something like 5/220 with easily the best odds of winning championship in LA. But I dk what they actually offered and everyone is different.
If Harper told Boras “get me the longest deal with the highest possible guarantee” I think he did pretty well considering. It is weird to see him sign a very similar deal to Stanton though because it’s not what I was expecting.

Exactly when you are looking at that kind of money its pretty tough to think it is unfavorable. In 5 years he could suffer a devastating injury or could just decline production wise and in the end not make as much money.
I would have a major hard time turning down a third of a billion dollars to play baseball

I’m surprised he didn’t get a deal with opt outs. Early on, it sounded like that would be important to him. But I guess he couldn’t get opt outs and the record.

Article I read said Harper didn’t want an opt out.

I can’t imagine why a player wouldn’t want an opt out. You don’t have to exercise it.

Absolutely. He may have hated this whole process and decided it was the last time he wants to do it as well.

I assume Boras would have used that as a negotiating chip to get a longer deal with higher guarantee, not just telling them “take out the player option”
If it wasn’t a priority for Harper he can use that in his favor

Supposedly, Boras wanted a three yr opt-out, and Middleton told him no, and that wouldn't sell with Phillies fans..
Knowing it meant Bryce was leaving open an LAD or SF option..in his prime years.
Now, I am surprised that he didn't maybe negotiate say a yr 6-7-8-ish option..fairer to both parties.

I’m told Giants made a 12-year, $310 million offer to Bryce Harper. They were willing to go higher but would have had to go well over $330 million to get it done because of California taxes.

Hate to be political on the MSB board. Yahoo Sports and others note Cali taxes were a hinderance for the Giants bid.
But, there it is, just like with the exodus of businesses to Austin and Nashville. And it's citizens not boxed in by house mortgage or job positions, fleeing to Denver, Austin, Portland SLC, etc..when they can. As recent polling shows that more, if could, would, flee Cali.
California due to it's politics has created an limitation on it's teams..when all other aspects tend to make them easy sells to the players.
Glad my Phils landed LV's Harper away from LAD and SF.

With the AAV Harper has, it's clear, they are going to break the bank for Trout.
with it being 25ish per year, they still have the $$$ to make a run in 2 years for him.
they were willing to pay 2 players 25mil+ per year, this year if need be.
