I will be surprised if Ohtani pitches much this season. Don’t know if it’s worth the risk.

its the other way around. if anything he isnt going to hit as much

Didn't Tanaka miss like two months a few years back with the same injury?
Posted on 1/5/18 at 4:38 pm to WestCoastAg
Richard's has missed most of the past two seasons correct? Not sure what type of pitcher he would be. ohtani is an unknown right now

Well yea. I'm not saying they are going to win the division, but they have the pieces to have an interesting year

When do you think its gonna hit the MLBPA that the Luxury Tax is "screwing" over the players?
There is no floor in MLB other than 25 x Min salary + benefits which comes out to about ~36 mil.
However there is an arbitrary number selected that teams are discouraged from going over. All the big markets this winter are choosing not to spend which is depressing salaries for players. Also the megastars are always gonna get paid so Harper, Machado, Kershaw deals shouldn't be used by the union to act like they are doing their job.
You have a defacto Cap in place with no minimum which allows teams like Marlins and A's to run absolute joke payrolls

People have been talking about that since last year's CBA. This winter may be a big catalyst for change going forward
I don't think we'll ever see a cap since we basically already have one, but a team salary minimum is coming

Rangers announced an agreement with the Nippon Ham Fighters today.
quote:
The clubs will exchange ideas and information in areas ranging from business and ballpark construction to scouting and player development. The Fighters will assign an instructor to work in the Rangers system during spring training and the regular season

Don't they habe another pitcher coming up also? Forget his name but I bet the rangers are trying to get an inside track

Honestly have no idea.
We've had an inside track in Japan for awhile. We actually had been recruiting Ohtani since he was in high school.

Dodgers had ohtani signed out of high school but NPB basically strong armed him into staying
Traditionally we are the franchise for Japan since we were really the first franchise to get in there but in recent years that's seemed to die down as we focus more on Latin America

What we need to do is re-establish that pipeline and foothold we had in Latin America. The league as a whole has caught up and actually bypassed what the Rangers did so well for so long.

We signed a few big prospects from South America with the money we had after not getting Ohtani.
We have a pretty big hold on Venezuela.
It was Osleivis Basabe, No. 24 on MLB Pipeline list.

The hauls haven’t been impressive in a while. We use to have our pick of the litter. The edge they had for decades no longer exist.

A big part of that is because, like you said, the rest of the league has caught up in scouting, but also the way foreign kids are signed now with the money capped.

Didn’t see this posted (taking a break from the LSU OC debacle), Alex Cobb rejects 3 years 42 million from Cubs. According to MLB network he wants 20 / year.

Someone will give it to him
