Some fascinating info on the Yankees in light of yesterday's Business Insider article.

It was speculated that MLB may have purposefully sent juiced balls to big, "marquee" games, and sent dead balls to less meaningful games.

I dug into the numbers, and this is what I found:
quote:

This is what the Yankees as a team slashed in 2021 games broadcast on national (non-simulcast) television:

.266/.331/.508/.839

This is what they slashed on games broadcasted locally:

.235/.310/.398/.708

More than anything, note the difference in slugging percentage.
quote:

Here's a few notables:

Torres OPS:
National broadcasts: .997
Local broadcasts: .670

LeMahieu OPS:
National broadcasts: .799
Local broadcasts: .695

Judge OPS:
National broadcasts: 1.101
Local broadcasts: .897

Gardner OPS:
National broadcasts: .708
Local broadcasts: .664

Free agency mystery: Justin Verlander’s $50M, 2-year Astros deal (w/opt out) never was announced and presumably is not official. That means Verlander and Astros have to wait to finalize until a new CBA is done. It is unclear why the deal reported 2 weeks ago is now in limbo.

Dodgers’ deal with Chris Taylor, per major-league source: Four years, $60M with fifth-year option that can increase the total value to $73M.

The narrative that has hung over the Cubs was that the Ricketts would not spend. For all their faults, and there are warts, I never believed that.

But their beat media let by Wittenmeyer have perpetuated that narrative and many fans bought in.

Just don't go overboard like the Mets and Padres last year....and looks like Texas this year. Huge long term deals ain't the answer.

MLB offers new proposals in CBA session

quote:

The league made a new proposal that, according to sources, included significant increases in pay for players with two-plus years of service time, with the best players earning even more in bonuses based on performance. The proposal also included ideas to address players’ concerns regarding alleged service-time manipulation to incentivize teams to include top prospects on Opening Day rosters.

That's promising.

Also looks like only Ortiz has a shot at the HOF.

I was wondering if all these players(mostly marginal) taking international contracts knowing the players' union is going to dig in and jeopardize the season.

I like how they’re offering solutions to service time manipulation but still saying it’s alleged.
