Been a little while since we’ve had a weekly thread. Some solid matchups though with NYY starting a 4 game series at Boston tonight
Milwaukee/LA another great matchup tonight and a World Series rematch in LA this weekend, although that has the potential to get ugly with a lot of the Stros offense being out
Rockies/Brewers also facing off this weekend which is huge in the crowded NL playoff race

And as I was typing that Didi hits a 3 run homer in top of the 1st to put the Yankees on top early

The Yankees are a mediocre 31-18 against teams with losing records. The Orioles, who have just 33 wins all season, are an even 6-6 against the Yankees.
Meanwhile, New York is 30-17 against teams that entered play Wednesday with winning records. Their .638 win percentage in such games is the best in the bigs

Hicks with a home run Yankees lead 4-0

CC walks Betts with bases loaded to bring in a run, 4-1 Yankees
Also, Yankees announced Sonny Gray will head to the bullpen and Lance Lynn will take his spot

Damn CC is struggling tonight....
54 pitches and the second inning just ended, CC is sweating like a greased pig
Still, he has only 1 run allowed, but he isn't going 5 at this pace

yikes
I was looking at Bostons starting pitching. After Sale, you have 2 starters who are decent, but neither great. They better hit the waiver wire for help.
Houston staff is so much better than anyone else who will be in the playoffs in the AL. Lunow did great work. Yankees load up with bats, and Houston rounded out their staff last year for another couple runs.

I'm prepared to watch Lynn get lit up like Gray, Yankees have Cessa up as well to start in place of Happ and said they will make a decision on the rotation after this weekend.

This prob sounds ridiculous, but I’m a little concerned about how healthy Houston’s staff has been. Nobody in our opening day rotation has missed a start, so I’m worried about work load for each of the starters. Verlander obviously seems to thrive on that, but even with his age I wouldn’t be opposed to him missing a few starts to ensure he’s not worn out come October
Most concerning is McCullers and Morton who have major injury history. Crappy thing is we don’t have a huge lead in the division and with how sporadic our offense can be we need our best starters out there
I guess best case scenario would be Oakland cools off and Seattle continues to fade and by the end of August we would have a comfy lead in the division. That way we could maybe use some September call ups to start a few games and give our regular guys some rest

With Gray only going 2.2 yesterday and CC struggling today (68 pitches in 2.1 innings) the bullpen will be taxed

CC not helping his cause in the 3rd with an error... Now at 77 pitches after 3 innings

A lot of the Dodgers offense has been out all year and their bullpen is more like bullsh*t.

Yeah but y’all have replaced Seager and Turner for Machado and Dozier

Steve Pearce 3 run bomb, second of the night. Great pickup by Dombrowski.

Damn. Getting to that yankee pen early tonight bodes well for 4 game series

For sure. I’m hoping to see some Sonny Gray relief action at some point.
