What are the odds that this happens and where would they go? I’ve read the A’s and Ray’s want new parks. I’ve also read the A’s are looking at Vegas. Again, what are the chances of new teams being added — as opposed to relocation — and where would they likely go?

Is this thread about expansion or relocation?

I seriously doubt expansion. There’s already too many teams.

The A’s are definitely moving. Doubtful the Rays are going anywhere.

This isn’t what I read, but this article is from August of last year.

It’s not a joke. No other city talked about in this thread would bring the immediate level of overwhelming passionate fan support that Birmingham would bring

You’re insane. No one has any reason to visit Birmingham. Not even the people that live there.

I don’t think MLB needs expansion but they’ve talked about it like it’s going to happen pretty soon after the Tampa and Oakland situations are resolved. Nashville seems like a lock for one of the teams. Charlotte, Portland, Salt Lake, maybe SA or Austin seem like the likeliest for the other team

I’ve seen you post about your politics, so if you’re calling me insane then I feel confident that I’m on the right track.

Your opinion of Birmingham is outdated by 30 years, and was wrong even then

Birmingham has a population under 200,000 people and is declining.

Does that sound like a good option for a professional franchise to you? This isn’t one of your anime programs, nerd.

As do I. Should contract at least a couple of teams. Even if all 30 teams were trying to win, there aren’t enough good pitchers to go around.

Raleigh doesn't get many headlines but they have an active group eyeing expansion or the Rays to relocate. The market is almost as big as Charlotte and has just the NHL team.

Birmingham already has a AA team and they can’t get 5,000 in the seats on a regular basis. What on EARTH makes you think they could get 30,000+ in the seats for MLB?

Any progress on the Rays new park? When is the next step. Unfortunately, Oakland has ran out of time. They had 2 decades to get something done. And still nothing.

Portland

Portland is Oakland but with commies instead of culture. An MLB team cannot survive there. The ballpark would have better attendance if it was located in Bend.

Idk if there’s gonna be resistance to doing Nashville AND Charlotte/Raleigh but I feel like those are the best two options as far as fan base size and passion.

I just can’t see Portland building as big of a following and SLC is smaller than Nashville without as many tourists.

Not that I subscribe to Austin getting a team, but between the two, Austin would be more attractive. The market will surpass San Antonio in the 2030s, so as a long term play it is the better option of the two.

Seems crowded for more teams, but then again, TX triangle is only adding people.

I really think Tampa to Orlando could do very well. Orlando is such a hotbed for High School and Little League baseball. Locals would support the hell out of it.

Even though the Magic have sucked arse for over a decade, they still almost sellout every single game because of the tourists.

Orlando would immediately get a shitload better attendance than TB.

I'd like to see at least one team west of the Rockies. Salt Lake City or Portland, it doesn't matter to me. And the other team in a state that doesn't already have a team.

Yah it seems like the Vegas model is $$$ so Orlando should be a slam dunk.
