The fact that this is even a possibility is ridiculous. The league is at ~$10 billion and the average salary for opening day is over $4 million

The union shouldn't even care about an international draft considering those players aren't union members

MLB > NBA
MLB > NFL
MLB > NHL
MLB = MLS

Keith Law says that MLB is just leaking bs to gain leverage.

Both sides are doing well, so there is no reason at all for any sort of acrimony that would cause a work stoppage.

That said, they do need to stop comp. picks for losing FAs, and these utterly bogus "competitive balance" picks.
For competitive balance, they could keep penalizing a draft choice for signing a FA, but that wouldn't be fair to the players.

The owners offered to get rid of draft pick compensation in exchange for international draft but union said no

Why would the players union say no to an international draft?
I get why players are better off with no draft as a general principle, but this is a draft of 16 year olds, many good players get lost in the system and those international agents and signings are shady.

, and it seems that getting rid of compensation would be a much bigger boon to the players.

Step one of the media campaign. Don't worry, there won't be a lockout, there isn't even that big of a contention.

Everyone should read Lords of the Realm: The Real History of Baseball, it's a great history of the business of baseball.

I'd also recommend "The Game" by Jon Pessah.
