Chris Lemonis has been fired after nearly seven seasons as Mississippi State’s baseball coach, the school announced Monday.

Lemonis enjoyed immediate success in Starkville winning 52 games in his first season and leading the team to the College World Series. Two seasons later, his Bulldogs won the school’s first ever national title, knocking off Vanderbilt.

Since that dogpile on Charles Schwab Field, Mississippi State is 42-69 in SEC play and is on pace to miss the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four seasons.

State renovated Dudy Noble Field in 2019, spending $68 million to create one of college baseball’s best venues. Lemonis has not been able to garner a regional host site since 2021.

Everyone should catch a game at Dudy Noble. I have been to several regionals and they are a hoot. I follow them up with LSU Super Regionals to watch our Tigers play.

This one was easy to see coming
Question is will the next guy get enough NIL support to build an roster there that can win to their desired level

Felt like their 17-13 team last year was back on track

7 SEC series
#1 (0-3) Home
#2 (0-3) Away
#5 (1-2) Away
#21 (1-2) Away
#23 (2-1) Away
UNR (2-1) Home
UNR (1-2) Home

4 of 5 ranked series on the road and the lone home series against the #1 team? 7-14 doesn’t feel THAT egregious on that schedule. Add the easier stretch of UK/OM/Mizzou he’ll miss and that’s a 13 win team. Given the escalation of the conference arms race, that feels on par for what they “should” be

I get State not being ok with baseball going quietly into the night and falling behind but there’s 10 ranked SEC teams. Recent baseball jokes like UT, UGA, and AU are among that number and finally making the ongoing commitments needed to stay there. The State job is going to be turning over regularly if they don’t answer the resources bell

why are yall assuming they havent answered the resource bell?

They have one of the best programs and have the best facilities and its their pride and joy. Wtf makes anyone think state isnt answering the resource bell?

i understand the SEC is insane now but they are committed to baseball as much as LSU is, the firing is extremely justified and was like watching a car crash in slow motion, knew it was coming just a matter of when.

If you are state, you are not paying Lemonis to be in the cellar.

As 8th highest paid coach in the conference (and that's with a NC), State is paying him to be .500. That's a 13-win team if he stays through year end, after a 17-win year last year. They're getting exactly what they're paying for

Unless the new guy is bringing a NC-winning (or caliber) resume, he's going to be paid in the bottom half. This is State's new normal
