The longer they wait the worse its going to get for the Angels. Trout very likely won't resign there.

If The Cardinals offered Grichuk(good CF same age as Trout), there top 2 prospects, and took back Pujols contract the Angels would HAVE to accept it

He would be far better than anyone the Angels have behind Trout.

Why would you post the exact same thing twice (it wasn't a double post, they were posted four minutes apart)

No chance the Angels take that trade just to get Pujols' contract off the books.

and there are multiple teams that could beat that proposal

Depending on how you value position players vs. pitchers think about this.

Reportedly the White Sox wanted Nomar Mazara (Possible rookie of the year), Jurickson Profar (Former top prospect, modern day 23-year-old Zobrist), Joey Gallo, Lewis Brinson and Luis Ortiz from the Rangers for Chris Sale.

That's at least two players are both young with multiple years of control who can start from day one along with Gallo and Brinson. Gallo could maybe play from day one, but Brinson is Texas' top CF prospect and is probably a year away while Ortiz is Texas' top pitching prospect.

Personally, I would ask for more than that for a guy of Trout's caliber.

kole calhoun

I really like Calhoun. Before this series against KC, he was the coolest RF that had come to Texas this year. Myself and two other young guys always heckle the shite out of the opposing RF's but they were both super cool about it through both series' and even gave us balls to give to kids out in our section. I hope Calhoun continues to perform well in his career.

there is no trade proposal that i would ever take for someone like trout who is currently on a career path to being like a top 5, possibly the GOAT, all time player who is locked up for 6 more years for only 144 million

That's how I feel and that's why I said in my first post in this thread that no matter what package the LAA got, the team receiving Trout would win the trade bar none.

With the whole system in terrible shape, if the right deal comes along they couldnt hold him at the expense of making the franchise better.

Playing off the deal 2 posts up

Mazara, Profar and Gallo would give them 3 immediate, young position players.

Brinson & Ortiz are top 50 ish prospects.

a trade like that is an immediate franchise changer. They go from a team going absolutely no where, with a terrible farm system, with no real good young players outside of Trout, to a team loaded with promise.

hes still so young, that they could completely retool their farm system and he would still be a key member of their next core. who knows what they will look like in 5 or 6 years, but he will just be touching 30 then. the only thing you have to worry about is whether or not he would resign but, if youre the angels, thats not something you worry about now. thats something you worry about in 6 years if you still havent been able to come through on your rebuild

Yeah I could see them accepting a trade with those players involved (in an obvious alternate universe).

For guys like Trout and Sale who are under club control on team friendly deals that is the kind of deal it would take to bring them. Pretty much at least two young controllable every day players and your top three prospects (I'm still considering Gallo a prospect because he has less than 150 at bats in the bigs.

I wish we had a transfer fee system like they have over seas for soccer. What is Trout worth in a transfer fee? $100mm? $150mm? $200mm?

I guess I'm the only realist here. In today's world of free agency, etc. no one player is absolutely, positively untouchable. The Angels are going nowhere fast with Trout, and there is a very good chance he bolts when his contract is up. If you can get Mazara, Profar, Gallo, Brinson, Ortiz + 1 more valuable present big league talent from the Rangers you have to take a long, hard look in the mirror before you can say no. Sometimes you have to have the courage to make tough and unpopular decisions for the betterment of your franchise.

They aren't retooling their farm system any time soon. They have no pieces to trade. It would take 3-4 years at the earliest but they haven't exactly drafted well, so that's wishful thinking. The team will be bad for a while

Everyone certainly has their price.

I just think with some guys, like in the case of Prince Felix, guys feel loyalty to their team and they don't want to leave whether they're competitive or not. I could definitely see Trout doing that and being an Angel for most of his career if not all of it. He isn't someone who thrusts himself in the spotlight or likes to stand out (Like Harper).

I can tell that just by the way he plays. He makes a great play, he jumps up and runs to the dugout. He hits a 470 ft bomb, he drops the bat and jogs around the bases and doesn't show anyone up. If he wasn't my divisional rival I'd love him.

i used 6 years just as an arbitrary number. they can go through his whole contract, resign him at 30, and then take two or three more years and he still would probably be the best player in baseball. under normal circumstances you would be right but this is such a unique situation that trout is so good at such a young age

Random question, I didn't follow farm systems a whole lot several years ago until Profar was the top prospect.

Was Trout the No. 1 prospect in baseball, or did he kind of come out of nowhere?
