You think a 16 seed doesn't stand a chance against a 1 seed in basketball, try football
It's probably less likely in basketball, actually.

because its not 1 v 16, like it would be in a 16 team playoff. In a 64 team field, its #1-4 v #61-64, really lower since the 16's are from 1 bid leagues and some bubble teams would be seeded ahead of them if all were in.

Correct, hence why it's more likely in CFB.

Some of these CBB #16 seeds, it's really #1-4 vs #248 or something lol.

That's really probably not far off since some of them have losing records and just won their conference.

It would be more like LSU playing a 6-6 SWAC team in football. There is no scenario that 2011 LSU would lose to a team like that.

I'm all for a playoff but any more than eight IMO (existing bowls and reg season relevance aside) and you're talking attrition,I wouldn't want a backup DT from Rice rolling up my team's QB in a 1/16 matchup.

I'll take just about anything vs. what we've had though.

If you're #2 in a conference, you're clearly not the best team in the country.

but a playoff system is illogical unless the best collection of teams are in it. if you're #2 in a conference it doesn't make you worse than another conference champ (and we see this every year in CFB)

This would only be true if teams only played a conference schedule.

But since that isn't the case, there can rather easily be situations where the best team in the country can be #2 in their conference.

Just a hypothetical last year, Bama loses to LSU only, but LSU loses 2 nonconference games and 1 game to Florida, and every other team in the nation loses 2 or more games.

In that instance, who is better than Bama? It's certainly not "clearly" the #1 team in that conference.

16 sounds like a good number.

Most conference champions (examples LSU, Boise, and Houston), the best conference runners-up (example Georgia), and a few 3rd place teams of the major conferences (example Alabama) would get in. The rest don't really deserve it.

11 games plus 4 round playoff for a total max of 15.

Conferences get a cut of all playoff revenue so that all teams can get something for giving up their 12th game.

you have to decide what value you will place upon the conference schedule.

except for people in Alabama, I think most members of the public would have preferred that Okie lite get the spot in the BCS champ game.
